Inno Phantom 466 Roof Cargo Box + Seasucker Monkey Bar Roof Rack
While my truck is more suited to road-trips with lots of gear, wanted to make a go at taking the ME on this season’s holidays travel. As noted here, not many options for us for roof rack wise
Having seen this seasucker setup and cargobox (slimmer one albeit) on a rally and it holding up on a supercar for a week of absurd speeds, I was fairly confident it would meet our needs ? The recent recall on the glass roofs was also of some concern, though supposedly ‘not-applicable’ to my build. Tested the rack alone for a week, and a week now with the box as well. Quite impressed so far.
The Seasucker monkey bar setup utilizes a round 1.3” alum support bar mounted to 6” Vacuum mounts. The front using a pair of Dual cups up front and single pair out back. The support bar can be broken down into 24” sections, so makes this a quite portable setup.
Just the rack alone, wind noise was pretty bad. It was expected with round support bars, almost exhaust drone sounding. Trialed some foam pipe insulation to the bars, and noise is for the most part gone ?
Likely won’t get done for this trip, but ideal plan would be to fab a low profile fixed base to hardmount the box to, netting a much more flush to roof setup. Or considering using some spare Yakima Aerobar I have to use in the place of the roundbar. All that said, given the likley one use per year, the monkeybars as-is are likely fine.
