Installed my Chargepoint charger with a re-tractor for easy of use.

When installing charger I didn't want the charge cord on the ground or have to walk around the car to use. I Instead installed it over the ceiling and use a re-tractor to keep it from hanging so low. Although
not perfect, it gets the job done.

Would need some kind of swivel, but eventually...

If you are happy with the device you are using for retraction, please post a link or model number. I've gone through several now and can't find one that has the right amount of tension on it.

ChargePoint makes a cord management device. Commonly used with their commercial installations.

EnelX has something similar.

I consider that , but I would have had to pull it over the top of the garage nightly. expensive good retractors and $150.00 to $200.00 (PITA)
Or run electrical to the top of the garage to pull it straight down. This was the least expensive way , around $40.00 in parts to get it done.

Of course, every garage ceiling is different. I started thinking about this right after my wife began thinking about an MME.

If they can make a ready made 30 amp reel, can a sixty amp be far behind?

And does cost really matter, if it works, and keeps the wife happy?

Anyway, this is what I have to work with. A completely open ceiling, with 3' deep trusses. My 60 amp welder plug is in the far left corner, front of the truck, by the 100 amp sub-panel.

Run 220 and drop the charging cord straight down.

My 220 is in the ceiling for three reasons:

1) Easier to run the cables, didn't have to fish the wall
2) For my local electrical codes, it doesn't have to GFCI since it is over 7' high
3) I liked the idea of a drop down retractable charger

Thanks to OP for link on a good balancer, I was unhappy with the ones I had been using.
