Ok. I got this all diagnosed. There is new behavior inform remote starting. If you hit the button that was formerly known as remote starting, the climate control does come on. THEN you need to click deeper to choose whether you want defrost, heated seats, and/or heated wheel. Thankfully, once chosen these choices are persistent. Each subsequent remote “start” remembers your preferences. So it was a brief issue of a cold steering wheel that is now resolved.

As far as Celsius versus Fahrenheit, there is a setting under the user account settings that allow you to choose. I really should learn Celsius, but I’m feeling a bit lazy at the moment.

My car and app have been updating. Now when I “remote start,” FordPass shows me a slider to set the cabin temperature. But I’ve noticed that when I get to the car, 3 times now, when I get to the car, the steering wheel heat is still off. For 4 years now remote start, in cold temps, has automatically turned on the cabin heat, heated seats, and heated wheel. Is anyone else noticing a change in behavior?
New strategy seems to disable steering wheel heat if the outdoor temp is above 32°F. On older software the threshold was higher, like 45°F. I have to turn it on manually a lot more often now.

I haven’t seen a temp above 32° in 2 weeks. So I think their threshold is perhaps quite a bit lower or to default to off.

I just found that out this morning before heading up to the volcano. It’s only intuitive after you know. ;)

Oh … Kilauea at 1 pm Hawaiian Standard Time.

Those buttons above the slider is something I have not seen. Also my temperature shows in Celsius despite being in the US. Time to learn the metric system I guess.
You can change to F in personal settings on top right of home page

FYI guys had this issue on iOS and I force quit the app, rebooted, and I got my climate control slider back. Just gotta tap on it.

It seems to turn off when you "start" the car. The past few times I've used "Scheduled Departure Time" or the Climate button from the app that the steering wheel heater indicator is off, but the steering wheel has been warmed. New behaviour?

I'll have to pay closer attention next time.

It’s enabled in one of the 10.x OTA updates. Then it requires a server side change, then it shows up on FordPass.
Does PAAK need to be set up for these features?

As an engineer, Celsius is absolutely what I use for work stuff. But F works really well for the human experience: 0F is pretty freaking cold, 100F is pretty freaking hot.

That’s not the only odd behavior I’ve noticed. I have my temp set to 72 degrees for remote start in FP and in car it’s set to auto (rather than last setting) and typically see one of three scenarios when I get in and start the car:
  • Seat heater is on at level 2, steering wheel heat is on (most common scenario)
  • Seat heater is on at level 3 but steering wheel heat is off (next most common)
  • Seat heater is on at level 3, steering wheel heat is on (every now and then)
There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason for which scenario is active—I haven’t extensively studied it but don’t see much correlation to the outdoor temperature. And if there is some correlation it doesn’t make sense to heat the seat to level 3 without heating the steering wheel if it’s that cold out.

Anyone else see this and anyone have any idea why it behaves this way? That said, I love the remote start feature.

So, low and behold today I DO have the new controls. I just had to press the button above the sliders to activate the heated steering wheel and it worked.

I saw your post and thought, dammit, why don't I have the climate setting options like that?!?! Then I went to the app and started Climate, and tapped on Climate Settings- I had never done that before! I didn't realize it opened up a dropdown, I just thought it was telling me the climate was set to 72. Thanks for this!
