In California that's likely not much more than current registration.

I’d be more concerned with insuring it. Years ago I had an F350. I was shopping for insurance to see if I could save a few bucks. It was registered as a personal vehicle in Washington. Several companies I talked to said they don’t insure commercial vehicles and declined me. I could not convince them it was not being used for commercial purposes. This severely limited my choices.

Today they are more common but it may still be an issue insuring commercial vehicles.

My insurance AAA classifies it as a truck in Florida, for registration in FL doesn't matter cost the same.
