I agree with this. If you car is built after June 1st 2022 you are far better off. While EVs on the market now are ALL pretty much first generation and first model year caliber and all buyers are early adopters whether they know it or not (except Tesla, Leaf, Bolt) getting a Mach-E that was built in the second half of it's second year, Job2 Year2, with three re-tooling revisions, AND known to have replaced the HVBJB with new hardware post recall, AND is before the MSRP goes up and the $7500 IRS tax credit might disappear. This is the sweet spot.We have a Mach-E on order already, finally being built this week! I have watched these forums for the past year, and have seen a good number of issues. But I am not worried and the reason is that I am not ordering a 2021, but a Job 2 2022.
As a comparison, I also have a 2021 PowerBoost F-150 Lariat. I got it within Job 1 of the new model year/redesign, and it has had a number of issues. I have had three recalls and visits for non-recall issues. That said, I love the truck. It's basically perfect for us and I hope to keep it for a while.
Now why that matters to you is, if I bought a Job 2 2022 version of my truck, aside from missing some features Ford cut due to chip shortage, I would by all available evidence have a problem free truck (usual one-off stuff aside that any mass vehicle can encounter). I spend a lot of time at the F-150 forums, and it is a trickle of 2022 F-150 issues compared to the mountain of 2021 issues.
First model year is always rough, for every company. Others on here mentioned the Toyota EV issues, Tesla has had TONS of problems with their vehicles, so there is no reason to stress about the reliability of a vehicle not even ordered because first MY owners had a higher than typical number of issues. It seems most of the late 2022 owners on here are happy with few to no issues. That is what I would concentrate on.
