Y'all should count your blessings. Here in California our rates just keep going up and up and up. Luckily for me, I live in SMUD area which is less, but still moving up in price.

Typical electrical bills in California are about $400 - $1000 /month with an EV.

Yeah I have no idea why anyone lives in SoCal except for the weather and canyon driving. Everything else sucks. I've spent way too much time in LA in the past 3 years....

My PV system is over-generating. Essentially, if I donā€™t use it I lose it during year-end true-up. Given that, my MME fuel is free. šŸ˜ŠšŸ©
Is that how Cali works? I over produce on solar in Mass (well I did before this summer) our excess sits as a credit on my bill that carries over, doesnt expire. And I am right on the NH border, great southern exposure, so I produce extra all winter, then eat into my credit in the summer between AC running 24/7 and pool, and now Mach-E since we drive that 95% of the time, previous EVs were only 50/50 on usage with our ICE.

Based on the off-peak Sacramento prices ($0.33) posted above, gas would be cheaper at $4.47/gal.
Just to be clear, @DevSecOps and I are SUPER lucky and appreciative to be served in Sacramento County by SMUD, a very respected municipality here that keeps our rates low. Neighbors just over county lines typically have double to triple our elec bills. The snippets he posted above were SOCAL EDISON which is most of SoCal, except for San Diego which is even worse.

My work has L2 chargepoint at the office for 10c/kWh. Pretty good! I can see why the bay area (PG&E) and San Diego (SDG&E) are so thirsty to plug in at work. The limit is 3hrs then you need to move or get charged $5/hr parking. The BEST EV rate plan with PG&E in Silicon Valley is 24c summer 21c winter. San Diego has the highest rates in the state.

Here are our SMUD (Sacramento) rates on the EV plan. Note that in a few days we will be 9.5c from 12am-6am.

So again, for Sacramento: high gas, low electricity rates, mild temperatures, we may have some of the largest EV savings vs ICE in the entire nation.

Yā€™all gonna hate me, but Iā€™m in the last year of a 3 year contract for electricity at $0.085/kWh.

Not looking forward to next yearā€™s rate

Iā€™m not sure itā€™s all power companies in CA. Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) does a ā€œtrue-upā€ once a year if you over-produce, they wipe the balance. If you need to pay, they bill you. At least they arenā€™t trying up in the dead of winter where ai would lose a bunch more then get billed for 2-4 months where use exceeds generation. I donā€™t put it past them to some day change the true-up period so that they get to do this. šŸ˜°šŸ©

Here in New England, our utilities get much of their energy from natural gas. That has become much more costly so last month our electric rates went up 40% to around .23kwh. I charge my MME at night and get a discounted rate of .19kwh. On November 1rst a even higher rate kicks in with our winter rate. I don't know what that will be yet.

Meantime crude fell to $78 a barrel next week. Gas prices keep falling and the first stations are starting to post $3 a gallon gas. That should accelerate next week.

I bought my MME in March, but here in NH, I expect a big range reduction with the cold weather. This all means that it will soon be cheaper to drive my ICE Maverick hybrid than my MME. Love this car but the big price savings I was boosting to friends about this summer are going away.
I'm in NH too. Ironically, I just got my new bill from Unitil and it was $50 cheaper than my last one. Of course that is due to less AC use recently and fewer road trips (less charging). I don't have an ICE so I'll just have to deal with paying a bit more. For now. Summer gas prices will come back and I plan on looking into to solar next year. I only drive 30/day so even if I lost 40% of my range from winter conditions, I'd still only be charging every 4+5 days. This will be my first NH winter with the Mach so we will see.

@Gene Bank who is your provider? Eversource?

What I am learning is some people have really cheap electricity and others very expensive.

In Ohio, I am entering the second year of a three year term from a 100% carbon neutral supplier. My rate is $0.0499/kWh but once you factor in the transmission/distribution fees it is really about $0.13/kWh.

I'm very fortunate to be able to charge at work for free and have worked out a strategy to get to about 80% charging at work and 20% at home so far. Really getting closer to 85/15, but wish I could set my charge level in FordPass to a specific number vs. the slider that skips 75% altogether.

For the OP, if you consider maintenance costs is it still cheaper to drive the Maverick? I assume it could be but something to consider (if not already discussed).

The snipits for SOCAL EDISON are WRONG. Rates are $0.21 per kWh when you have an electric vehicle.

.46 cents per KW here in Hawaii. Gas here still at 4.80 dollars per gl.

Holy cow! If you use the EPA's energy equivalence factor of 33.7kWh = 1 gallon of gas, then:
33.7 * 46c = $15.50 per gallon equivalent!

So is the only way to come out ahead in HI to have solar?

Itā€™s been a few years since I over produced, but when I did, PG&E cut me a check for the overage. It was at a wholesale rate which was way less than what they charged. I do know I had to request the check, they didnā€™t just send it out.

Two decades ago, I had the option to transfer to a job in Sacramento that I didnā€™t take and I stayed in the Bay Area. Looking at these power rates makes me think I should reconsider Sacramento County again!
