My wife announced she wants the rear trunk shelf in the upper position again. So now I'm thinking about storing stuff in the 3-4 inch space under it.

Since it's not convenient to access, I'm thinking I should keep things there that we might want unexpectedly. For example, it's a great place for the tire inflator/repair kit: you don't need it often, but when you need it you *really* need it. Here are some other ideas that came to mind.

* change of clothes, at least clean socks/underwear, along with a toothbrush, contact lenses, essential medications, in case we have to spend a night away. (medications would have to manage expiry dates by swapping every few months.)
* some warm sweater (or an old fleece), and maybe a wind/rain shell, in case of inclement weather.
* spare pair of glasses, an old out-of-style pair or a cheap pair from zenni, because it sucks when your glasses break and then you can't see.

In the category of 72 hour emergency supplies, eg a "bug out kit":

* some packaged emergency water pouches (not the recommended 1gallon/person/day that would be too heavy)
* water purification tablets and/or filter
* emergency food (moved from the frunk https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/emergency-food-in-the-frunk.34192 )
* another blanket to supplement my 12v heated blanket that I keep in the cabin as a range extender (ref https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/awd-w-extended-battery-range.40591/page-2#post-876315 )
* first aid kit
* multi tool / swiss army knife/ duct tape / zip ties
* handy-wipes, hand sanitizer
* hand-crank flashlight or lithium battery one (nothing's worse than a flashlight with dead Alkaline or NiMH batteries)

Other things I don't use often:

* Ford mobile charger
* Destination Tesla adapter for hotels when we're not on a road-trip (the supercharger adapter I use a little more often, and I'm in a hurry when I do, so I wouldn't want to hide it down there -- I'll keep it in the cabin or the frunk)
* Cafe2Go Presso xi emergency nespresso machine when we're not on a road-trip (on road trips this gets more use, and then needs to be charged in the cabin.)

Any other ideas?

In the frunk I'll keep stuff I need more often: grocery shopping bags, my micro-spiked footwear for winter walks, a pair of trail runners in the summer, the Supercharger Adapter, two beach towels (more used for mopping up snow melt than for beaching but also handy for cleaning up messes or cushioning fragile cargo).

I bought the trunk organizers for mine a while back. They work well.

I mostly just keep a ton of microfiber in there, plus my charging adapters. A couple other random things like an umbrella, lithium jump battery, and some odds and ends. But I like having the organizers to keep everything somewhat organized.

If you can find them for a good price, I think they're good. You'll just have to decide what that price is if you're interested. They definitely feel like they are or very near OEM quality though, not super cheap things.

I have been looking for this trunk organizer. I just found it on AliExpress for $96 CAD! Yay. But they want $169 shipping! Boo!

I guess I have to ask the question - why does she prefer the higher location?

I think she just thinks it looks better. Also the Ford branded protection mat slides a bit over the back lip, so it’s possible to slide things in and out of the trunk without scratching the car. I’m going to suggest buying the AOSK lip protection.

I think posting a photo of what's below the floor in the cargo area is a good idea to see what others have.

Besides my 12" sub, I mainly have cleaning supplies plus water, first aid kit, tire inflator, Ford charger and flares. The Tesla adapter is in a case on the left side of the cargo area.

Ford Mustang Mach-E Items to store/hide below cargo area -- what do you store? IMG_3722

Maybe some 2x4s to help support the shelf in case of overload? 🤔🐩

Some day I might put a subwoofer under there but I need to continue to keep the shelf in the lower position for my crate. That would necessitate a smaller sub than Mark’s. 🤷‍♂️🐩

I installed an aftermarket sub the first month I owned the car. I put in removable magnet mounted supports to put my trunk shelf in the upper position and then I filled it up with stuff I cannot fit in my car. I do not anticipate breaking down but I want to be be prepared. Most of the time I use the tools when I am away from my house. I put the following in the trunk:
- Fire Extinguisher (safety first)
- Full set of tools (socket set, plier set, crew drivers, torx set, etc.)
- A quality scissor jack
- A quality mini air compressor
- Tire repair kit
- To change the tire - deep socket, long breaker bar and a piece of pipe (for leverage) to fit over the bar
- Duct tape. Have to have duct tape!
- Gloves (several sets)
- A battery jump starter
- Rain suit, rain jacket and general jacket
- Rags
- Rope
- Mylar emergency blankets
- Folding safety triangles- set of three
- Printed manual on how to tow the car, where to jack up the car, winch points, manual charging cord release and how to open the low voltage service disconnect.
- Water

As I was writing the list I realized I nee to put in some type of hand cleaner, some zip ties of varying lengths, some bungee cords and some stainless steel wire. I may thing about the kitchen sink too. :giggle:

I put my aftermarket charger, with adapters, 100 foot extension cords with GFCI extension and full first aid kit in the frunk.

I put in magnetic supports. I took 2 inch nylon rod and cut it to fit under the trunk shelf and act as supports. I ensured they were just a little bit longer then the OEM supports so that most of the load is on the rods and not the weak OEM brackets. The nylon is in five locations. Two in the front, two near the OEM supports and one in the back(middle). I labeled each one since they are slightly different lengths.

I cut the nylon a little short and installed 2 inch round, 300 lb. pull magnet. The magnets are strong enough to attach to the car through the carpet and sound deadening but can be easily removed. I drilled out the nylon and threaded it to accept a threaded rod. I glued the rod in the nylon and used washers to adjust the magnet to the correct length. Now I do not worry about wreaking he OEM brackets.

In hind sight, the nylon was overkill. I wanted to have something strong and resistant to water, fluids, etc. If I did it again, I would use 2 inch round wood. Nylon is hard to cut and even harder to drill and tap. Wood is much easier to work with.

I stole the idea of supports from you! 😁🐩

Under the trunk/boot board?

Nothing I ever will need.

The Ford charger stays in the garage - less point than a chocolate teapot!

Redundant Ford tyre inflator & charge lead stays under there, I only charge DCFC away from home and locking wheel nut key is moved to glove box where that lives.

Of the 104,000 miles covered, c90,000 miles was with c£35,000 worth of tools & equipment weighing around 500kg stacked & strapped down between front seat backs and tailgate so access under the boot board is generally a no-no.

The froot houses all the stuff I may need, must always carry but rarely use; defibrillator, Milwaukee tyre inflator, gallon of petrol, gallon of diesel, gallon of water, tyre repair kits & emergency plugs, oils, polishes, cloths, hand cleansing equipment etc.

The bootboard comes up to top level when only coats, shopping & light stuff carried in domestic use because I agree it looks “right” at that level when boot is empty.
