Stumbled on this article. Interesting how the combo of driver shortage and how each driver picks their route and therefore pay has a large bearing on deliveries.

For example, my MME sits 20 miles from the dealership at a NS yard with a Jack Cooper hub adjacent to a Ford assembly facility. But because the route that would take my MME to the dealership is probably a short distance and likely low paying route, the vehicle just sits.

Great find. Glad to see this getting mainstream coverage.

It's to the point where the dealerships might need to hire their own hot shot drivers to go get the cars they need from the rail yard. Alternatives like this need to be considered in this day and age.

Alternatively, larger dealers will also get preferential treatment since a full load likely will get scheduled before a partial load. My dealer is about an hour from the rail yard. My car sat several days longer at the rail yard than others that were on the same train but went to a much larger dealer a bit closer to the yard. 🤷‍♂️🐩

I guess choose a large dealer somewhere distant from the final rail yard. 🤪🐩

Thanks for posting. This article is as old as my Dec 2021 MME order (which remains unfilled). In Sept 2022, my window sticker says "convoy" is the delivery mode, rather than rail. However, my dealer is on the left coast, so I assumed it would be delivered to Ford destination ramp code CH27 by train (UP-Mira Loma Auto transfer yard) for truck transport there to dealer. Now, a rail strike is threatened in late September (actual outcome remains to be seen) that would further confound MME deliveries and further push the delivery jobs onto the trucking industry. Apparently, there's no way to track MME movements when on Jack Cooper trucks and few opportunities to track MMEs on trains, this is looking like quite a few MME end users are in for more delivery anxiety, assuming they can get past the "build/shipped" hurdle.

If the combined nitwit pinhead dipshit dumbass consensus in Washington we call CONGRESS doesn’t get together and do something bipartisan that the entire nation needs most of the rail system is gonna go on strike in a few weeks so don’t even worry about your car getting anywhere

Jes sayin. Very little of anything the two parties will do to change anything in our lives other than screw it up. Why can’t we demand they get together on this kind of thing that hurts everyone.

It's easy as an outsider to just say this or that and others should get back to work, but I think a major issue is that the workers have no clear idea when they should be at work even next week since they aren't given any flexibility in their schedule or notification.

It's like being on-call 24x7, and you can't plan a thing because the rail company can on a whim, ask you to show up to work next week or you'd get fired, etc...Think Wal-mart worker with 0 freedom/planning/respect in regards to your time.

Read the rail worker forums and see why a ton has chosen to just quit rather than deal with this crap.

I don't know the whole story neither so I don't want to be biased one direction or the other, but it's not just about the $$ from the little I've read and you can imagine why America has not enough workers who want to work in trucking/rail/transport/etc...(even law enforcement). Jobs sorta suck and people hate/target you.

If someone doesn't like it, maybe they can start driving trucks or work on a railyard, but I'm sure a lot of us are probably more fortunate. Rail companies are making record profits from what I generally see:

I am likely in the same scenario. My vehicle has been sitting in a yard 50 miles from the dealership for three weeks. Ford can't tell me when it will be delivered to the dealer and keep on referring me to the dealer for information. The sales manager has no more insight on a delivery date.

As large of a customer Ford is to Jack Cooper and other partners, they should demand something be done to keep vehicles from sitting for long periods, especially those that have been ordered by customers. I work in a leadership role in my organization. If one of our vendors acted this way, I would demand something be done with the consequence of losing our organization's business. Too many folks high up the org chart at Ford Motor Company that obviously don't care about the customer experience. If they want a competitive advantage in the EV world, they need to win the customer experience game

Because the minority party in Congress would absolutely love a rail strike right before elections. Anything that hurts the economy and hurts Americans is good for them because it will go against the party currently in power.
