I had downloaded their app to use a charger at a state park. I guess that will be going away.

Sure would be nice if they'd open up the hardware now. They ruined the previous juice net app and I used to have some cool stats in Home Assistant with the old way but the new Enel x app broke all that.
I just changed the amp from 32 to 40 thru their app in case the app doesn’t work. Just to be cautious

Is there an answer to my question somewhere in this?
Too long didn’t watch? Yes, basically she had been using a software feature to gang two Juiceboxes together so that they could share and balance the same power circuit. EnelX Way deprecated the feature and remotely updated the Juicebox to remove it.

As it applies to your question, the mobile app will be discontinued, so you will not be able to control the charger with the app. This is why @kennethjk is going into the app while it exists on his phone to change the charging speed. The software/firmware on the charger itself will no longer be updated. It will continue to function as it is until some future upgrade of the MME makes it incompatible.

This is no surprise to me given the lack of meaningful JuiceBox customer service. Closure of Enel X Way USA, LLC (mailchi.mp)

Dear Enel X Way USA, LLC Stakeholder,

After careful consideration, Enel X Way North America has decided to close its electric mobility business in the US and Canada, operated by the local subsidiary of Enel X Way USA, effective October 11, 2024. An experienced third-party firm will be appointed to manage the company’s affairs and ensure that the closure is handled with the utmost care and professionalism. The appointed firm will be responsible for managing the remaining obligations and communicating directly with customers and partners regarding the closure.

This decision is in line with the Enel Group’s strategic approach to e-mobility that pursues further growth by providing bundled offers, including private charging solutions, to its electricity customers as well as by developing public charging infrastructure in countries where it has an electricity retail business. By contrast, Enel North America has no retail electricity customer base and was active in the e-mobility segment only through the sale of charging hardware and software.

Additionally, the dynamics of the EV market in the US have changed quite a lot in the last year and, like many other companies, Enel X Way North America has been impacted by high interest rates which have increased the cost of scaling the charging infrastructure business in a framework of sustained uncertainty where EV sales growth expectations have not been met.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Residential charging hardware (JuiceBox) will maintain the physical operating ability to charge vehicles.

  • All Enel X Way software will be discontinued. Commercial charging stations will lose functionality in the absence of software continuity.

  • The Enel X Way App and all other Enel e-mobility apps in North America will be discontinued and removed from the App Store.

  • Enel X Way customer support is no longer available, effective immediately. Any Enel X Way related questions and claims should be directed to juiceboxnorthamerica.com.

  • The decision to close Enel X Way USA, LLC and related impacts do not apply to Enel X Way customers in other countries outside of the U.S. and Canada.

Enel X Way North America understands that its decision has implications for those who had chosen its charging solutions. Inquiries regarding any outstanding matters, including customer accounts, orders, or obligations, can be directed to juiceboxnorthamerica.com.

North America remains a core geography for the Enel Group, where it will continue to focus investments in utility-scale renewables and demand response.

Yet another IoT device becoming either a door stop or losing a lot of functionality.

It's the time we live in with so many devices connected to the internet that rely on server side resources to function.

We all want the initial cost to cover the remote access/functionality forever but the reality is that we should all probably be paying so many monthly subscriptions. But as consumers we resist monthly subscriptions because no one wants to pay more every month.

The same thing could happen to my ChargePoint Home at some point in the future.

I am changing my settings to 40 amp from 32 right now just in case it goes blank
Me too. I just changed mine. I imagine the iOS app will continue to work until it is no longer compatible with latest iOS released. Not sure what their connection to their servers provide now other than location and history of charge sessions?

I wonder what all “software discounted” means. I can’t change settings on my charger or no more updates. 🤷‍♂️
Discontinued is pretty clear. You have no access to the charger settings. None.

Android app does. I changed my one charger to 48amps, other already was. I believe when you reboot via a power cycle, they would default anyway.

I just logged into mine and wiped out all configurations to make it dumb….

I hope it continues to look for the backend servers so that my proxy will continue to pull status updates for Home Assistant, fingers crossed.

I've had the Juice Box 40 since Dec. 2020. I'm shocked to hear this news. So for those of us who have Juice Box Charger what exactly does this mean. Will Juice Box be a separate company and be able to service and sell?
