From day one that spot has been problematic for me. So much so that I stopped using it completely. It is much quicker to press the keypad numbers to force lock the car. For those that aren't aware.....press and hold the 7/8 and 9/0 buttons at the same time and it will lock the car.

Be careful though. If you leave your fob or PaaK in the car then you can lock yourself out and will need the code to re-enter.
Mine too. I've only seen it work maybe once or twice. I'm thinking that maybe it is tied into the walk away lock feature, i.e, it disables that button? Just spit-balling.

uhh... that is the whole point of my thread. My lock button doesn't work right. Standing in front of your door hitting the lock button for 20 seconds before it locks isn't easy anything. It's broken.
I was talking about the lock buttons on the inside of the driver and passenger's door. Press that button as you exit the car and all doors will lock when you shut your door. I have not tried the combination key pad yet. That to me is for emergencies, like lost or dead fob, phone bat dead and such. I've only owned Ford's and for me everything else seems redundant but in sertin situations they do have their place. I've noticed that people not familiar with ford don't realize that this button locks the whole car. Good luck with.the key pad, I'm giving that and valet parking a go today. :p

I am not sure. The shop manual says that little button communicates with the RKE modules so it is probably checking for a Fob or Paak to be outside the vehicle. And since Paak isn't really that speedy......maybe that is the reason for the delay? The fob should be immediate though.......that technology is quite robust and been in use for years.....so I dunno? ?

my need to try to remember to do that. But after almost 20 years of the outside touch place actually working on various cars, its should just... work? I'd overlook some of the other bugs if I could just have this simple thing work reliably. well maybe not..

Using the FOB. Plus the rear door one usually works within a couple seconds. I'm pretty sure the delay is a software communications bug, and nothing more. Getting Ford to acknowlege it and fix it, is another matter. I am scheduling a shop visit specifically for that purpose.

OK, so I just got back from the wrap shop. Had the grill area done in gloss blk. This is knew to me I didn't know it did this. I got out of the car, shut the door and casually pushed the lit open door button and it lock immediately. So I tried it again I push in the center and the door opened, now I'm confused. I did this twice and it just opened the door. I know it worked so this time I pushed just slightly above the button in the blk area and that locked the door 3 times in a row. My apologies. My finger was partially on the button but mostly in the blk and it was a pretty light touch. Hope it works for you.

The black area above the open button is where the lock button is.

I've never had my outside lock button work (but I never tried for 20 sec), I just thought it was disabled cuz of a setting i was using like "walk away lock"

So, to lock the door from the outside, don’t touch the raised symbol in the shape of a lock; touch the small (smaller than finger-tip) size, unlabeled black area between said symbol and the circular unlock button. Genius! They had me at hello.

Mine works. I just didn’t know it.

I reported to the dealer, but have zero confidence that Ford will ever hear about this, let alone fix it. Ford is still Ford at the end of the day, and not a luxury car experience. Not sure what I was expecting, but it is sobering.

I touch the lock symbol and it locks every time. If you have to touch below it, maybe it wasn't calibrated properly?

It's not a fix, but as a workaround, if it doesn't lock right away, you can hit the bottom two combination number buttons simultaneously and it will lock. This doesn't require a key at all, so that should always work.
good find, I missed that in the manual.

Assuming it is actually calibrated. Mine doesn't react on, around, hold, touch, whatever. Takes about 10-15 seconds to react the first time. Anyway, Ford and the dealer are useless on this after I brought it in to service. I'm on my own to figure it out or just live with it. All I get is a shrug from them. I may try a different dealer now that I also have a auto up window button failure.
