Not content to have the HVBJB replaced in April, I’m getting my double badge off Mach-E infamy.

Tried charging at Seattle premium outlets today and I was having trouble charging, then I heard a loud bang. Charging was no longer possible and I received the stop safely now message.

Only took just over nine hours to get towed from problem start. So now I have a few trips from Canada to the US and who knows how long to get it fixed.

I’ve been pretty positive after the first time, but now I think my limit has been exceeded!

Loud bang? Like all the contactors opened, or like the 630A fuse blew?

Was your second HVBJB a post or pre recall part?
Pre recall. I was one of the early ones before it was noted as a problem. People thought I was making a mountain out of it.

I thought it was the transformer beside me but it was so going. Apart from that, no idea. I’ll check the difference tomorrow and see which makes sense.

Okay, a loud bang during charging is still an unsettling failure, but probably not indicative of anything if your first failure got replaced with the same defective part. Certainly sucks for you to deal with.

I suppose a fuse could have blown inside the charging equipment. The 630A fuse is inside the HVBJB but I've never heard of it blowing before. That would take over 200 kW of power going through it. I have heard of other people reporting DC chargers exploding however.

So I can't hear the sound of flying shrapnel after the pump explodes? 💥
If a tree falls in the woods does it make a sound? Well if there is no sound does the DCFC explode? Seriously though my guess is although there is a loud sound there is little debris. The utility I worked for installed a 5kV 27MW battery. When a 5kV string blew it was like a cannon going off! They installed a small plexiglass shield to prevent any copper flying out. DC fault takes a bit of energy in the form of a blast to extinguish the arc unlike AC that has a zero point.
