Except that Tesla is likely an outlier simply because they are still learning how to mass-produce stuff (and are willing to experiment) which lowers overall quality.

Other OEM EV producers have been at the mass production game for years (over a 100 years for some) which means they have mass production down pat, its just the EV part that is new.

That data is not meaningful if we don't know how much business those service centers would have if servicing a similarly large fleet of ICE vehicles. If the answer is that they would have 35-50% more business, then it reinforces why present ICE dealers see BEVs as significant impact to their bottom line. And, again, I don't think there any BEVs that are not claiming lower maintenance costs as an advantage. I already pointed out the Mach-E certainly does.

By the way, here's an analysis by Motor1 where they compare Tesla Model S annual average maintenance cost to luxury coupes and sedans. Something like an Audi 6 is more than 3 times more expensive. Model 3 and X averages are even lower than the S. Therefore dealers are looking at Tesla and seeing a threat that their service revenues would be 30% of what they are today with a BEV fleet.

However, as with most of your conversations, you'll just keep parroting the same line over and over without addressing various points brought up by others, so I'll file this with "all spoilers are designed to increase drag" and also not respond further to the bait.

One more possibility... If Tesla service centers are keeping busier than expected, it could simply be that Tesla build quality is poor (thus they need more service). If that's the case, BEVs like the Mach-e and others from legacy automakers that have been at this a lot longer may not need as much service.

Another possibility is that almost all Tesla's have to be repaired / serviced by Tesla, whereas, for all of the legacy makers out there, you really don't need the dealer (except for warranty service) and can take to the huge independent repair / service places at considerably less $$$$.

I spoke to a high end mechanic Audi/BMW/etc. yesterday, he indicated that third party repair shops are years away from being EV ready. In fact, they are shying away from the business mostly out of safety concerns (high voltage) and knowledge. So, most all EV repair will be done at a dealership for the next few years, at least. I'm sure there is a critical mass of EV involved in the change, as well.

Sounds like a case of "premium" product with "premium" long term service costs.

Ford's own Mach E site says "$431: POTENTIAL ANNUAL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE SAVINGS"

Latest Mach-E update from today’s huddle:
The launch is going fine, obviously the shutdown impacted the factory start up process. The teams have now regained access to the facility and work is underway.

The phase 1 tooling tryout builds have been completed, issues were identified and are being corrected. Tooling tryout phase 2 builds to validate those fixes from phase 1 are expected to begin the week of June 15th.

No further updates on delivery timing.

Many thanks for that update. Does this mean that the tooling that was in Michigan has been delivered or are they still waiting for that? At least we know that progress is being made (slowly)

Any mention of the tools that were still in Dearborn and have to be shipped to Cuautitlan?

No sorry, there were no specifics given about the actual tools. It was a high level update. I take it as a good sign that things are progressing towards full series production.

From today's huddle: no launch specific/timing updates.

There was a question to Jim Farley specifically about how the Mach-E stacks up against the Model Y. The answers from him and the team can be summarized like this:
For the Mach-E we're looking at a new totally digital experience, Mustang means performance and fun to drive. One of the advantages of the Mach-E is that we have the Mustang design language (I think this was meant to call the Model Y kinda ugly/plain). Part of Tesla's success is OTA updates. We'll need to look at judging the Mach-E's success not just at launch but a year or two later, the vehicle must stay fresh with OTA and adding more features over time. Tesla's charging network is also seen as an asset. While the Ford Pass network is expansive it's maybe not as visible, so there is some work to do there.

There was a product review held yesterday with Darren Palmer and Hau Thai-Tang. The comments around this were that the Mach-E is fantastic and will deliver on everything Mustang. The digital hmi and center stack is best in class and for sure is the best Ford has ever had. The vehicle connectivity and connected services that the Mach-E in vehicle modem tech will enable Ford to have in the future are going to be exciting (not only for the Mach-E).
