Yeah the fan designs are very aerodynamic, what makes the aero good on those however is that the fans are angled outwards and “pushes” the air out of the wheel. Unfortunately 99% of fan design wheels have the same angle on all four wheels, meaning they will also push the air inwards on the other side of the car.
the ones I have are flat, no fan design. What makes them very aerodynamic is that most of the outer part of the rim is covered. The outer part of the rim causes most of the aerodynamic chaos that reduces range - this is because the outer part moves crazy much faster that the inner part near the centre.
If you look at EVs in general you see that a lot more OEM wheels take this into consideration these days. I think it was Audi’s R&D team who even went to the length of saying the inner part of the wheel can be largely ignored for any aero purposes.
