Hey Guys,

Been enjoying the car so far, we get alot of rain here on the east coast

With the crazy weather around the world, does anyone have data or even tried to drive the Mach E in high waters?

I'm not talking about submarine levels but up to the fenders. Ford claims its battery encasing is waterproof but im concerned that the flaps in the front that open up automatically will allow water in since it has direct access to the battery.

It doesn't seem so sealed but i'm not an engineer

Just don't want to end up with a 5,000lb brick if I get caught in a bad storm

The flaps in front have no path to the battery. Any water that enters that area behind the front bumper can drain out from below the car.

I would think that all the other Electrical connections outside of the battery pack would be more susceptible ... no way everything is waterproof..

Yeah, even Munro’s battery tear down shows that the connectors are all sealed. Ford’s manual said don’t drive it in water higher than the bottom of the front fascia, so basically you’ve got about five inches of ā€œmanual says it’s okayā€ water height. You’re not going to fry because of a rainstorm.

The battery is airtight, and the connectors are sealed. If the battery is opened up for service it has to be leak checked with soap bubbles afterwards before being put back into the car.

This doesn't give you permission to drive through a flood though because a lot of other stuff could go wrong. Besides, it's never a good idea to drive through a flood in any kind of vehicle–"Turn around, don't drown" says the NWS. With water you can't tell if it's 4 inches deep or 4 feet deep. Personally I would not drive a $50k+ electric car into anything more than an inch of water, not worth the risk to me in case it drops off suddenly.

Also remember in the Lightning the battery is up between the frame rails, way higher than the 6" clearance we have.
