Have less than 5k miles on my premium and and have over 10 chips on the hood. My wife's 2002 toyota Camry with over 20 years of driving has none. For a 60K car you would think ford could beat the build quality of toyota. Shame on you ford.

You think paint chips are from poor build quality???? Youā€™re joking right?

Thatā€™s quite the quality analysis my friend. Perhaps you had the misfortune of being pelted by some particularly large stones or some other debris. Did they all show up at once or over time? We have a couple tiny chips in the hood of our ā€˜21 4X with 23K miles and it sees 75-90mph on I35 in Central Texas 3 times a week.

Rock trucks galore all over this mofo around here. In fact, thereā€™s a rock quarry called Texas Crushed Stone about 2 miles from us that has constant rock hauler traffic on our main thoroughfare to I35.

Iā€™m actually surprised the paint isnā€™t thinner and easier to chip.

Does the 2002 Camry have a tri-coat finish? Tri-coats are known for being softer. I had the dealer add ceramic coating for $600 (inside and out). I've got 11,000 miles and no chips.

That being said, you are not the first to complain about paint chips. That does suck.

I suppose if you get a flat tire you will also blame Ford. Because we all know Toyotas don't get flat tires.

I had a few paint chips from the trip up to WA, but that wasnā€™t unexpected. What was unexpected was the mobile paint people touching them up when they fixed the shopping cart scrapes on my front bumper. No chips since then. 14 months with the car now. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ©

Bwahahaha! I blew out a few pairs of rear tires with my Celica. 9.7K RPM in 1st and 2nd will do that. šŸ˜±šŸ©
Also twisted up a driveshaft, blew up 2 rear ends, and 5 trannies. šŸ¤ŖšŸ©

Did you read the post. 20 years of driving no chips. 6 months of driving several chips. That's poor build quality. Or do you think paint isn't a quality of the build???

Agree. So why didn't ford put the same coating on our 60k cars.? That's my point. If they are truly concerned about build quality make a quality product!

How close do you follow people? Iā€™m always in the blue follow distance indicator and havenā€™t run into this problem

Usually the same. I don't tailgate. Very disappointed about this problem. Have ordered a hood protector to negate future chips.

I'd assume the mandates for more eco-friendly paints since the early 2000s may result in softer / more chippable coatings.

14 months and 10k miles and only one small chip. Iā€™d normally have a dozen by now but changed my driveway to asphalt and no longer tailgate like I used to.

So far, seems the ā€œbuild qualityā€ is awesome since Iā€™ve only got one paint chip after all. Lol
