It looks like the total sale of electrified vehicles is now around 182,713. At this rate, the total sale should hit 200,000 in April. This makes me nervous especially when the delivery date has been pushed back for a month.

How are you coming up with that number? The IRS site is laggy so still no 2021 year end, but based on Mach E and E Transit they should still be below 170,000.

Also you have a full quarter at the full EV credit before it starts to phase down, so even if they do hit 200k in April, highly unlikely, you get the full credit until June 30. No idea what happens if/when they pass any updated Build Back Better items.

Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring, Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring (PHEV) and Escape Plug-In Hybrid are also included as qualified vehicles along with the MME and e-transit, that count against the 200K.

Your math is way off, as of December 31st Ford needed to sell 39,000 and change EVā€™s to reach 200,000. They did not sell 21,000 EVā€™s in January and February this year!

I agree with you that I doubt it'll happen before April. However, if I understand the rules correctly, if Ford hits 200K in April (Q2) the phase down begins after the next full quarter. The tax credit would remain at $7500 through Sept 30 and then the 50% reduction in the credit would begin on Oct 1.

At least that's how the phase down of GM Worked. They hit 200K in Q4, but the phase down didn't begin until April 1.

Fords January 2022 sales report showed 13196 electrified sales, February shows 8984 electrified sales for a Jan/Feb total of 22153. Now do these numbers include sales of hybrids that do not count toward the 200K sales cap? Probably. Until the numbers on the IRS site are updated it's all speculation.

This is discussed on other threads of this forum, so just a recap here. I hope I have this right: If Ford reaches 200,000 cap on sales of EVs in US, the Federal tax credit, $7500, remains in effect for the quarter the cap was reached, AND for the following quarter. In the above example, if Ford reached the cap in April 2022 (Q2) the full Fed tax credit would continue until Sept 30, 2022 (end of Q3). Oct 1 (Q4)the tax credit amount is reduced to $3750 for the next two quarters, e.g. until Mar 31, 2023 (end of 2023 Q!). Then, reduced by half again in next two quarters, reaching zero tax credit in summer 2023 (end of Q3). Again, this is on EV US sales. It does include hybrids, too, but is not based on total EV cars produced, such as those thousands sold in Europe. Tesla and GM lost their Fed tax credits and lobbied hard to remove the cap, but the Bill failed in Congress. Looks like zero chance for Congress to enact any EV incentive bill for quite a while.

OP shows US 2022 MME sales 2,300 in Jan 2022, and 2,000 in Feb 2022. (6K produced in Jan, Feb number not known yet but plant was at full production except for week of Feb 7-14. At the moment, It's unknown how big the gap between "produced and sold" will be. That is, how many are "built" but not completed, or built and sold in Europe/Canada vs US?

It must include Hybrids as well... those are included as "electrified" on their website. In all of 2021, Ford sold 23,000 EVs that qualified toward the IRS Credits. I doubt they sold that many EVs in the first two months of 2022. The ETransit van also started leaving the KC Plant in early February for delivery.

I used those numbers for the calculation without considering hybrids being part of the electrified. I was panicked when I saw the numbers so I forgot to think about hybrids Ford has been selling roughly 2,000 hybrid Maverick per month assuming that the same numbers applied to hybrid Escape. The original number could be off by 10,000+ and 200,000 should not be reached in April. One thing to keep in mind, I have been seeing PHEV Escapes for sale a lot more during the past month and that could contribute to 200,000 target real quick. June (unlikely) - August would be possible

There are a lot of negative year over year numbers. MME is down 46% over 2020. I realize that production could be going to Europe, but the wait times are surely going to go up.

The 200,000 limit is for US sales only and as of end of last year Ford needed to sell a little over 39,000 vehicles to reach the threshold. It has been projected to be reached in the third quarter of this year. Currently the Mach E is the only Ford vehicle meeting the standard. So, not speculation at all except when the number will be reached.

Yeah hybrids count as well. Looks like Q2 is when Ford hits the 200K sold.

Edit - I dont know that they all count towards it. The only one that I know for sure is the escape hybrid.
