There is dual temp controls driver and passenger?) I think but not three meaning there is no separate back row controls other than just the vents

Don't know but that would be my guess too. For a vehicle of this size (fairly compact), I think back seat fan or temp control is probably rare. I've seen it more in bigger vehicles (vans, Suburbans, etc) where 3rd row is a long way back from the dash vents.

Our Escapes (same basic interior size) just have the vent slats that you can open/close.

Right. But I think it's a misprint in the guide. After all, what's to prevent the backseaters from changing the controls like this:

"Hey, Ford! Turn up the fan speed."

Fan speed increased.

(Giggles from back row occupants.)

These seats don't have enough side-bolstering...I'm going to order the optional Performance seats.
