Interesting response to my question over at the MCA. If the Mach E isn't a new generation, just what does it take to be a new generation?
Do you think he really believes it's an S550?

(*) this might be too obscure for some. if you've played Civilization or been to Cambodia, though, you'll get it.

I think he misread it as Mach-1. I hope.

Based on the answer it by model year alone.

Could probably reference https://media.ford.com/content/ford...9/11/17/all-electric-ford-mustang-mach-e.html
that Ford considers it a "New generation" mustang. If that doesn't work, flood the forum with mach-e specific topics and the ICE mustang owners will want you to be in a separate area.
  • For the first time in 55 years, Ford is expanding the Mustang lineup with the all-electric Mustang Mach-E SUV joining the sports coupe, convertible and special editions, featuring an all-new infotainment system and connected vehicle technology

Wikipedia also lists it as a different generation:

Next generation Mustang doesn't come out until 2023 (or later?). So a 2021 is a 6th generation vehicle.

At least that is my guess as to how they are interpreting the discussion. Feels like progress considering the answer wasn't "Mustangs don't have 4 doors!"

...and I currently own an 06 GT and an 86 GT, so I am allowed to criticize the Mustang fanatics who don't consider MME a "real" Mustang :)

Personally, I don't think a Mach-E is a new generation. It's an adjunct to the family. The Mach-E will most likely have it's own generation. Maybe someday the fastback Mustang will be electric in its next generation.
