I'd hate to be a carmaker with the inflation what it is currently. They will be delivering a car 8+ months from now at today's prices so they'd have to eat costs if parts or shipping doubles or triples.

Telsa raised prices incrementally and on high-demand cars with 6-10 month waits (15% YoY). The Performance trims with 2 month waits had much smaller raises (5-10% YoY).

I work in an industry where some manufacturers are increasing pricing monthly if not weekly due to supply chain issues and price increases on components. Iā€™ve seen some go up 5% multiple months in a row. Most dealers arenā€™t even locking in pricing for customer orders anymore since the delays and supply chain shortages have caused year plus waits and lots of dealers taking a massive loss on some orders prior to policy changes.

If for some reason Ford increases the price for my build by $1000, Iā€™m not thrilled about it but itā€™s a small increase and itā€™s the world right now.

Since Ford gave existing orders a $750 credit on 2022 prices vs 2021 prices, I'm assuming they're not going to just tack on $1k or $3k to existing orders neither.

We'll have to see and hope Ford doesn't screw over people with existing orders at least.
The $750 credit for people that had their '21 orders delayed to '22 expires on Jan 3rd, most people still won't have their vehicles by then so hopefully it's renewed or it will be a completely disingenuous offer. Add a price increase on top of losing the $750 that and there's going to be a lot of "screw you Ford" happening. We could also lose the $7500 tax credit next year since the EPA considers the Mach-E a station wagon instead of a SUV, and the price is too high to qualify if the bill passes as written. So we're looking at a potential situation where the effective price of a '22 has increased $10k over a '21.

Not surprising. I think their initial price cuts in Fall 2020 were a mistake from the companyā€™s perspective. Even without the chip shortage, it was clear the Mach-E was generating a lot of interest and that kind of price cut was probably not needed right out of the gate. But from a buyerā€™s perspective, I wonā€™t complain!
Ford's price cuts were right around the same time Tesla dropped the prices on the Y LR, which were around $3000, the first being $2000 and then another $1000.

Good thing Ford didnā€™t follow suit this year when Tesla raised the prices of a Y LR $9,000.

You do realize it's due to the EV bill, right?
You do realize the price increase already happened and the bill didnā€™t pass yet, right?

You also realize that no other EV manufacturer increased their prices this year by $9,000, right?

Isnā€™t the point of the bill to make EVs more affordable?

That doesnā€™t work if the manufacturer just raises the price!!

In conclusion- Boo Tesla! Boo Tesla sucks! ?

If tax rebate doesn't apply to MME I AM OUT! I'll spend a lot less for ICE car that I CAN actually get.

We ordered a Premium Extended on 6/19. In Oct, Ford sent us email changing from 21 to 22 along with a $500 price increase. They also sent a $750 rebate if we take delivery before 1/3/2022 for the inconvenience of changing to a 22. We are now in dec of 21 and we still do not have a VIN. Looks like we will pay the increase and not even get the rebate. Who knows when we will get our vehicle. The dealer said our car is in the que at Ford waiting to get scheduled. Ford Marketing is totally useless and provides no assistance what so ever. They said call the dealer. The dealer says call Ford.

Tesla announced this increase shortly after it became known that BBB had a provision to remove the 200k vehicle phase-out. That would allow Tesla buyers to claim the tax credit that they currently cannot. Maybe the timing was a coincidence, maybe not. If this was truly their rationale for the increase, it would seem they jumped the gun.

GM would be the only other EV manufacturer in a similar boat.

While weā€˜d like to believe that the tax credit is solely for the benefit of the consumer, it is still just one of the market forces that will ultimately determine the selling price. Itā€™s complicated!

I really love all the panicking. Sure, Ford is going to raise the price of your ordered vehicle, the one that they then gave a rebate to that was more than the increase, and they're going to let the rebate expire so you're hosed.

Love the internets...

The email we got with the $750 rebate for the 2022 conversion says "Place order or take new retail delivery from an authorized Ford or Lincoln Dealer's stock by 1/3/22" and it can still be combined with X-Plan.

Sssh! This was discussed ad infinitum back when the email came out. Yes, you are 100% correct. Apparently some are reading-comprehension-challenged. I suspect if you go back to those discussions, you'll find the same people posting here.

In preparation for it. If it doesn't pass, they can easily drop prices again. Even at current prices, there's still a large backlog of 6+ months, so people aren't price sensitive at the current prices. Note, prices aren't higher outside the US. Think about it.

The bill is pointless. The only thing is does is shift the money to the manufacturer, not the end user. Ford has their cars priced with the Federal credit in mind. Prices will adjust downward once the credit is fully consumed.

It's quite obvious what the Tesla strategy is since the price increases aren't global, only in the United States.
