Well, if the $25K increase is really accurate, that’s gonna make economies of scale a lot harder to reach.

My guess is Ford will continue taking the cost beating knowing that inflation and costs are likely going down sooner now that the Fed confirmed the 75 basis point hike with more to come this summer. Plus, EVs are among the top new car searches now, so, even with a looming economic downturn, people will be buying them as a hedge against chronic high gas prices.

The original CNBC article was updated and the $25,000 was removed. Disclaimer at the bottom reads:

Correction: This story has been updated to remove an incorrect figure for cost increases associated with building Ford’s Mustang Mach-E. Ford CFO John Lawler did not provide a number for that increase.

We’d be seeing major changes at Ford if $25,000 USD per car is correct. At 50,000 cars per year that equates to $1,250,000,000 in losses just for the MME alone.

Thanks for that update.

Nobody is making money on EV's
Funny enough, none of the owners that drive one are saving money over an ICE vehicle either.

As nice as the Mach-E is, it's a $25,000 vehicle with another $25k worth of batteries in it.

You could find a comparably optioned ICE crossover for around $30k vs. Mach-E's $50k price tag. Add to that higher insurance premiums, and any illusion of saving money vs. driving an ICE car only make sense over a 10+ year lifespan.

This is probably another reporter screw up, they probably heard something wrong on the call.

It’s not clear if their costs went up $25k (unlikely), the Mach-E costs $25k more than an Edge to produce, or none of the above.

Other sites saying the latter, "the model ... now costs $25,000 more to produce than an equivalent gas-powered Edge SUV, he said."

No offense intended, but this comment doesn't sound like it came from a Mach-e owner. My Mach-e is the nicest car I have ever had, and I've had high-line vehicles before. There is no $30k equivalent ICE crossover.

While Lawler didn’t state how much the company could be potentially losing at this time on every Mach-E it sells, he stated that costs for the EV gone up to the tune of $25,000. I believe that is to a total cost of $25,000 not by an increase of $25,000.

That would make much more sense. Maybe 25,000 Peso since it is make in Mexico? (about ~1,250 USD)
When the headlights alone are $2k a piece, there’s now way the car cost $2500 to build. Definitely $25,000

Setting aside the jackrabbit acceleration, super quiet ride, lower maintenance, and all the other perks of an EV, I’m genuinely curious to see what you consider to be a comparably optioned ICE crossover for around $30k.

It’s true the Mach-E is more expensive than it otherwise might be if it were an ICE, but it categorically is not the equivalent of a $30K ICE. It drives much better, has nicer materials, a more upscale interior, a better put together vehicle than anything remotely in that price range.

There's no way Ford was EVER making money on the Lightning Pro, period.

The battery materials issue will sort itself out, but it will take a couple of years. We'll see a whole slew of new materials projects come onstream (and maybe even the advent of cheap sodium batteries). The point is we'll have a glut of batteries in a couple of years and that's when we'll finally see genuinely affordable EVs come out. In the meantime, hang on!

Details people, details, take your time when you read this stuff before you put misinformation out on this forum!

I can't come to this forum and wade through this endless reactionary pile anymore. This thread has NO accurate numbers, it's title quotes a misprint and a too stupid to take seriously misprint at that.

The recall 22S41 thread is at 56 pages.

Seriously. Who has the time....?
