Ford and Shelby and now 2-0 for actually making the Mach-E worse.

Seriously, WTF Ford... Most of us don't want this.

Instead how about...

- Eliminate the 5 second limit
- Fix the suspension bounce
- Improve the turning radius
- Allow the steering column to run parallel with the floor & to telescope further
- Install a quicker ratio steering rack
All those request require actual work and engineering, this rally edition, much like the Shelby one is more of a quick browse through Amazon to find random visual mods to slap on the vehicle. @AOSK any chance you've gotten an uptick in orders from "Mr. Totally not Ford Motor Co." for spoilers and body kits?

RALLY-INSPIRED ELECTRIC THRILL: NEW FORD MUSTANG MACH-E RALLY CHARGES UP THE HILL AT GOODWOOD FESTIVAL OF SPEED

JUL 14, 2023 | CHICHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM

CHICHESTER, United Kingdom, July 14, 2023 – For the first time in its nearly six-decade history, Ford is taking Mustang where it never has gone before – where the tarmac ends and the dirt road begins – with the rally-inspired electric Ford Mustang Mach-E® Rally.

At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, enthusiasts and onlookers will get a look at the first rally-inspired electric SUV from Ford– available to order in the U.S. this fall – as it charges up the hill driven by Ott Tänak, current driver of the M-Sport Ford Puma Hybrid Rally1 entry and former World Rally champion.

“Mustang Mach-E took the freedom and fun of Mustang and made it free from emissions. Now with Mustang Mach-E Rally, we’re providing our customers the freedom to venture off the asphalt and beyond the beaten path,” said Darren Palmer, Vice President, Electric Vehicle Programs, Ford Model e.

Mustang Mach-E Rally will be available first in the U.S. and Europe. To stay up to speed with the first-ever, rally-inspired, five-passenger Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally, visit https://www.ford.com/suvs/mach-e.

Great and a 5 second drop off when hill climbing.
Place a wing, new paint and call it a hill climber and idiots will run to put down $80k

I doubt very much that they will market this as a rally vehicles like those of long past times, as stated in their official release, its a Rally inspired vehicle with no intention of making it "race ready"
Now if M-Sport has their hand in one that could be a different matter alltogether!

Tony
M-sport involvement would have the complete opposite effect for me and given me even more reason to ignore it lol. A biased opinion I know but for all the money Ford pumped into M-sport they should have gotten far more success in return. Fords rally heritage ended the moment they shut down Boreham in 2003 :(

With the success that Toyota had with returning to the good old days of rally homologation specials with the GR Yaris along with dropping the running gear into the GR Corolla it makes Fords decision to create a rally inspired vehcile that is little more then some cosmetic changes another lost opportunity.

Not interested. Maybe a bit disappointed - I was sort of hoping for a Shelby Cobra type of thing. And puzzled in so many ways. Why this instead of an electric Bronco? I came into this thread to ask if anyone really wants this but I suppose there was a bit of interest.

Mostly, I wonder what this means for the Mustang brand. I'm not a brand purist and I am fine with Ford going even further - anyone see the Ford SuperVan? Give us a Mustang Minivan, I'll buy it! But trying to make a Mustang into a rally car just seems a weird way to go. I know third parties have made Mustangs into rally cars before, but as far as I could find, this is the first time that Ford has done it - even though they've made other cars from their lineup into rally cars.

So what is Ford trying to say with this? Are they trying to stir up further controversy? Is this a warning shot to expect further non-conventional Mustangs in the future? Or are they just doing it for fun and publicity?

I was being on the fun side of sarcasm. Still the mach e will be on the expensive side with no added power.

From the articles, it’s a suspension swap, some graphics, wheels, and a few bumper pieces on a premium 4X.

What are they trying to say?

That they’re willing to green light specialty models as long as it’s a cheap easy change.

It’s definitely a test to see if it’ll sell.

Unfortunately I think it’s a bad test. Went waaaaaaay too obscure with this one.

Hopefully we will get something a bit more mainstream as a specialty model too (with some performance enhancements of course).

Almost all of the ICE specialty Mustangs got a power boost. Even if it was only 20 hp, it was something.

Did anyone look at the time it took to do the Goodwood hill run and decide how fast it was?

I assume the video run time was the run. 1:11 The McLaren held the record at 59. So not believing the MMeR being only 12 seconds slower.

wow, the roof spoiler they got there is quite similar to our roof spoiler, except that they have it in gooseneck style.

but no, no uptick in orders at all.

If anyone is interested in building a rally-style, check us out ok?;)

Looks pretty cool. Does that tow hook go through the little door we use to pop the hood if the battery dies?

Not gonna lie I'm jealous of the existence of a tow hook at all based on some of the towing horror stories.

The European front bumper has hole and welded nut under the little jumper access door.... US does not. EU also has a tow rating, and US does not.

It also has a new bashplate for the battery (which makes sense, because otherwise people will puncture it going over rocks).

We shall see if they bother with the one that goes on sale.

Seems like a waste as it’s not really a rally car so no one will take it on a rally track.

Yeah, to be fair it’s Tesla not Ford that hosed everyone on resale value.
Options plan baby! Thank good. Our next city vehicle is going to be a Model 3. At least the interior material match the price instead of paying $70k for the kia RIO like interior.

Shame on Ford. Have three Fords, but this is our last I think.

The important part starts 8 min in.

He says they’re working on raising the acceleration time limit on the GT and pushing it as an OTA update!!

Direct quote “we are going to change that limit.”
