Saw this article today where the Mach E set 3 Guiness world records beating out Tesla. They included a 6.5 mile/kWh (500 mile range) and fastest charge time:

https://cardealermagazine.co.uk/pub...ld-records-taking-total-tally-to-three/232952

Impressive, but anyone have more details? My first question is: how?? I didnā€™t think 6.5 was possible in this car.

Ford Mustang Mach-E takes home two more Guinness World Records taking total tally to three

Not content with claiming one Guinness World Record, Ford has notched up another two with its Mustang Mach-E.

Ford Mustang Mach-E Mach-E Sets Three Guinness World Records (Least Amount of Electrical Energy Used, Shortest Charge Time, Fewest Charge Stops) Mustang-Mach-E-record-1920x1080

In July, the pure-electric SUV took part in an efficiency run between John Oā€™Groats and Landā€™s End where it achieved a new record for the least energy consumed by an EV.

Despite having ā€˜justā€™ a 379-mile range, the Mustang consumed 6.5 miles per kilowatt hour (kWh) ā€“ technically giving it a 500-mile range. This broke the previous record of 1.8 miles per kWh.

Now the car has claimed the shortest time charge record, taking just 43 minutes, 13 seconds for a charge on the John Oā€™Groats and Landā€™s End trip ā€“ over half an hour quicker than the previous record, held by Tesla.

The Mustang has also claimed the record for the fewest number of stops to complete the journey, notching up just one break for a top-up charge.

Tim Nicklin, Fordā€™s electrification manager, said: ā€˜As deliveries ramp up, customers can be assured of Mach-Eā€™s viability for daily use ā€“ as evidenced by this triple record-breaking performance, even on the UKā€™s most extreme journey.

ā€˜Fordā€™s own Go Electric report on consumer perceptions reveals that the average range which the public thinks an electric car can travel is under 150 miles.

ā€˜If the Mach-E can achieve well over three times that distance in the hands of professionals, and under 45 minutes of top-up charging on route, it can easily accommodate customersā€™ everyday requirements.ā€™

Mustang Mach-E Prices start at Ā£41,330 for the rear-wheel-drive model with a 273-mile range.

The top-spec GT model starts at Ā£67,225 and has all-wheel-drive and a sub-five-second 0-60mph time.

Sparse on details. Same speed, same driver and same air temp?

3 drivers, 27 hours, slow driving (avg 31mph). More details here: https://insideevs.com/news/519940/mustang-mache-world-record-efficiency/

Not much practical value in the award, but Guinness is basically just a PR machine these days. Companies pay it for the honor of an award - I expect some other company with a similar EV could challenge this, but fighting over Guinness records is a bit passƩ.

Interesting. However their ā€œreal worldā€ example doesnā€™t see to be reflective of what people are experiencing in the real world.

These quotes from the article seem a bit unrealistic:

ā€œThis record is about demonstrating that electric cars are now viable for everyone,ā€ said the team, reflecting on their efforts. ā€œNot just for short urban trips to work or the shops or as a second car, but for real-world use on long cross-country journeys. Weā€™ve proved that, with this car, the tipping point has been reached.

ā€œFordā€™s own Go Electric report on consumer perceptions reveals that the average range which the public thinks a fully charged electric car can travel is under 150 miles. If the Mach-E can achieve well over three times that distance in the hands of professionals, it can easily deliver its official ā€˜miles per tankā€™ to owners ā€“ and dispense with any previous range anxiety.ā€

This is a huge feat, but based on another thread here from the UK, the owners arenā€™t getting anywhere near 379 miles range.

What EV consumes 1.8 miles/kWh? Is this supposed to be 5.8 miles/kWh?

No clue, I didnā€™t write the article, just posted a link.

It may be one of those records that no one else tried that hard to break?

Fake news ??? ...Not on US interstates at 80+ mph cruising speeds... The best I was ever able to get is at around 5.2 mi/kwH driving at "grandma's" speed on level secondary roads for very short periods of time. The minute I hit an interstate and brought up to 80+mph the efficiency dropped to below 3.3 mi/kwH, and if you drive continuously after the second charge then the efficiency drops even further down, and never comes up above 3.3mi/kwH. Driving in FL temperatures of 90ĀŗF, w/A/C set at 74ĀŗF and tires filled w/Nitrogen at F38/R39 psig, two passengers and light load. RWD w/ Premium trim & 68kWh battery. The biggest bugger is the absurdly conservative charging curve, irrespective at either 150 or 350 kW rated dcFast chargers, whether at 10% or 20% SOC I never see rates higher than 87 kwH of charges, and it is for less than 100 seconds then it levels off down to about 47 kwH and stays till 80% SOC and then catastrophically drops down to an absurd snail pace of 8 kWH !!!
PS: At EA dcFast charge stations which are "colocated" with Tesla's Superchargers, i.e. one at Wawa in Newcastle, DE, one at Florida City FL (EA is at Walmart while Supercharger is at adjacent Bubalicious BBQ parking lot within eyesight) it is very evident that Teslas of all kinds come and go for a speedier charging than me, which takes at least 42-56 minutes to reach 80% SOC.
