I also ordered on 2/21 and no build date. Maybe depends on where you are or configuration? I'm in Oregon. Star White Premium RWD extended battery. How about you?
I ordered 2/24 a Space White Premium RWD in Las Vegas. I got a build date a few weeks back for 23 May.

Sold out - what does it mean?

In the following sentences I would like to point aut my view from the German/European EV-market und the European CO2-task.

The majority of Europeans realise the seriousness of climate change and are prepared to spend money on it. In addition, there is the consistent increase in petrol costs (~1.50 €/litre ~ $10.28/gallon).
Also, car manufacturers have to pay fines to the European Union if they emit more than 95 gr/100km CO2. And this value of 95 will drop to 63 gr in 2025. At this point it is also interesting that electric vehicles are offset and can reduce the fines. So carmakers will be rewarded if they sell EVs.

Taxes apply to EVs in most European countries.

In some countries, only EVs are allowed in city centres. Petrol cars, on the other hand, have to pay large sums of money.

There are even more influences that encourage and will encourage the rapid rise of e-mobility. But this also means that an incredible number of people, possibly many times more than in the United States, want to and will buy a fully electric car.

Under all these circumstances, what is happening now is this:
Ford is building an incredible car, the Ford Mustang Mach E. The VW ID.3 sold in Europe costs more in its mid-range trim than the Select version of the MME including all the technology packages. I once asked a Ford manager of the Edison team if he knew that the price segment in which this car is sold is not only the Jaguar I-Pace or ID.4, but also the ID.3, among others. This means that the market for this car is much, much larger than Ford's planned capacity in the Mexican factory.

There are now several car manufacturers that had already exceeded their annual quota in February, e.g. the Opel Mocca e, VW UP, etc.. Hyundai recently built a factory in record time in the Czech Republic for the Hyundai Kona because the market in Europe was too big and delivery times were becoming unacceptably long for customers.

To cut a long story short:
Ford has made an incredible step with the Mustang Mach E - almost too big! The capacity of 50,000 vehicles per year had been planned far too small. Even a top manager of the VW group, Ms Silke Bagschik, said in a newspaper interview one and a half years ago that even VW had grossly underestimated the EV market. I believe Ford has done the same.

Ford has to step up and can make a lot of money doing so; but it has to invest money to do so.

Yes, unfortunately Ford grossly underestimated the market potential for the Mach-E. My guess is that was a decision made by Jim Hackett, which may be on of the reasons why he's no longer around. Placing blame doesn't help, which I am sure Jim Farley knows so I expect that getting more batteries to be able to make more Mach-E's is high on a very long list of problems Ford needs to solve as soon as possible.

The majority of Europeans realise the seriousness of climate change and are prepared to spend money on it.
Unfortunately here in the US a very rich and powerful propaganda machine has a significant portion of the population convinced that "it's all a hoax". Apparently Americans are predisposed to believe that what's empirically proven is a "hoax".

"Sold out" in Ford-speak means dealer orders. It doesn't mean anything is or isn't sitting on the lot. We produce x cars per year, and they are booked as "sold" when there's a dealer order. "Dealer order" includes customer-ordered units, because we're still stuck with the independent dealer model in the USA.

As for planning, we being to plan factories up to four years before a salable vehicle is shipped. I learned that CX727 was going to be "Mustang" long before the general public (one of those decision makers is a fellow HOA board member), and this was still about two years before anything shipped (and it was a complete and utter surprise). By this time, of course, we'd already planned production at a particular JPH for a compliance vehicle that was projected to sell a lot fewer units. Production design includes things like how many welds per robot, which affects how fast a robot works, and how many robots are needed, which affects how much space is needed to layout an assembly line.

Basic manufacturing engineering, in other words. And, no, it's not as simple as turning the robot speed up to 11.

Simply put: . . Mustang Mach E sold out means you will pay MSRP or higher in '22 and '23. And, the dealers are the winners here.

Nope, it's not simple, your correct. If it doesn't work it, crashers, right into the next one. Start with a certain number of jph after Kuka and others sit up the lines at the plant. Once it's done then ford removed many unnecessary steps in the robot process to get a faster jph. Time studies will then be done for the workers to make sure it can be done.

Flow drill screws, spac nuts, drawn arc studs rivets all can be a pain just like welds. Part of the reason there is weld and joint inspectors.

It's amazing how many years ahead all this process takes as you said. It's not an overnight thing.

For CSAP, it was Comau and DESign. You're at KTP, right? You probably don't know DESign. They're out of South Africa, did T6/P375 work at Silverton, then some larger jobs for Asia-Pacific, and finally got a foothold here for P375 at MAP. Good, conscientious guys.

Edit: can only speak for Body, of course.

I am not suprised. All the vehicles that they have scheduled out from retail orders. While there are stock orders, they are being called for months before they arrive at the dealership. We managed to snag a mache stock order for my wife. Though my F-150 that was built on 3/19 is sitting in a lot with 1,000s of other trucks is waiting for modules and seats.
Was your F150 a Platinum or Limited? Wonder if what chips they have are going into higher margin trims to make up for loss if volume.

Sold out from what point ??? No parts point. Last order ???? Count ??
That statement is very open ended.
Scheduled production for 2021 was 50,000.
