So it sounds like a cost cutting downgrade.
It totally is and it should make EVs cheaper for the consumer. I would not use LFPs in the Mach-E except the Select trim.

Fisker is using LFPs on the lowest trim Ocean EV. Rivian said they would use LFPs on the lower end models.

Using an LFP battery on the Mach-E GTPE would mean a 1-2 second cutoff lol.

There are a range of pros and cons to this off the top of my head.

Pros
Lower cost
Many more charge cycles
Can charge to 100% all the time with no degradation
Tolerates being "fully discharged" better than other chemistries

Cons
less range for the same weight
more weight (thus worse performance) for same range
more space for same range
You missed one Pro : No heating up during charging
And one Con: Terrible in cold conditions
So the next generation of Mach-E may have to continue using older cell chemistry for buyers in the northen states, or they move south to use LFP cells.

Thanks for posting. Wonder if the LFP battery will come via a future OTA update, or require a visit to the dealer...
It is worse than that! The cells hold less voltage so you need a redesign of the battery and all the support, both in physical components and software. It is as bad as when smartphones changed from NMH to Li-Ion.

The present Mach-E cannot run with LFP cells. You cannot even refurbish it!

So am I correct in thinking, "glad I ordered before LFP rollout."

🤔

I’d say that will depend on the change of specs(and pricing), I for instance could live with a 150 mile winter range and maybe 1.5sec lost on the 0-60 if that meant the price would be 10k less(which I highly doubt it would be)

You’d be fine if the car were slower??

My crystal ball sees Prius ownership in your past. 😜

No Priuses here, but some cheap old pos’s from many different manufacturers xD. For the last ten years only bmw/audis with roughly the same amount of kw’s/horsepowers but any TD will lose to these EV’s when it comes to standstill acceleration xD.

And yes to slightly slower if it came with a substancial price reduction.

I do not see a price reduction in the mix. I would guess the motivation would be higher production volume and better margins for Ford.

The big thing here is using Iron in place of Nickle which reduces cost. Tesla is also including LFP in its battery mix.
Yes, currently only for Standard Range + Model 3.

It may not be less range for the same weight if it uses 100% instead of 92% of the capacity

It looks like Ford is switching to LFP batteries including for F150 Lightning and Mach-E

CEO Jim Farley just revealed this during the recent Ford Q1 earnings call:

“We’ve been working on LFP for quite some time, so let’s just leave it at that,” Farley said. “What I mean by that is, engineering LFP solutions in our first generation of products (Lightning and Mach-E), something that we see as a big opportunity and to move quickly.”
Any news on when the MME will be co verted to this battery style? Just ordered mine Friday. Assuming i would recieve a normal battery?

I've not seen anything definitive. I expect (meaning guess) that this will happen with the next model refresh (24 model?) and not before because of the downstream impacts to software, suspension, and supply chain.
