This was my exact reasoning when I considered which HVB size to get and went with the SR. The SR is already 76kWh which is larger than my Bolt with 60kWh (though I think the Mach-E is wider and may be a bit heavier, not sure) so I may be able to take a road trip within a state or two but for beyond that we have an Equinox that gets great MPG and we'll just use that. So I'm going with the SR battery, no need to haul around the heavier ER battery when I wouldn't go that much between charges 99% of the time. However after researching more, I'll probably reverse that decision and go with AWD SR. In my part of the country, any road trip means 75-80 MPH driving for long distances (like Denver to Vegas). That's just not gonna be practical in a BEV, even with extended battery (too many stops and long charge times). So the Mach-e will be the "home" vehicle (where range doesn't matter). For any road trips over 150 miles, we'll just drive our Escape.
