Yeah, I think that's the exact same set of bars I had seen - Didn't try to power cycle the car before I gave it a charge up above 80%, so there's no real science to my statement. But I have no other explanation for why I saw 13 bars that day.

Not even sure how to answer this.

Do you mean; how much power do you lose for each grey bar?

I don’t think that’s ever been tested (no Dyno tests), and as long as those grey bars exist, we can’t test what the power would have been without them.

Since they’re always there above 72 mph, how do you know what acceleration would be like without them?

My guess is the power meter (and grey bars) is somewhat based on percentages. But it doesn’t seem to be linear. When people have half grey bars, you lose much more than half your horsepower.

My 2021 GT used to get poodlebars at EVERY start event when the car was switched off for more than ~ 2 minutes. I could run into a convenience store (usually for beer LOL) and come out, and it would have ~8 bars, regardless of ambient temp. They would typically last for a good 5 minutes of driving. It got to the point that I used ForScan to code the car to not beep the horn on walk-away left-on status, and I would just leave the car in the "on" position. It was the same way on cold-start in the garage, again regardless of ambient temp. EVERY SINGLE TIME without fail.

One of the contributing factors to selling the car after 9 months/8k miles of ownership.

Thought I would try to collect some data for this thread yesterday. I drive a very long, straight back road that is abandoned at 5AM.

It was 21 degrees F when I left for work. Car charged to 90% to make sure that wasn’t a contributing factor. No preconditioning or remote starting.

When I started the car, I immediately had 2 bars. It should be noted that toward the end of last winter, after some Update, I noticed this as a change. I felt like I was getting fewer bars due to temperature but couldn’t go back and prove it. Nobody else was talking about it and I didn’t want to start any arguments. But last year, at the beginning of winter, temps below freezing was worth 7 bars. Now it’s 2.

Anyway, I set my phone to record the IPC as I drove and the results were:
2 bars unless I accelerated hard, or got above 80 MPH.

At 81 MPH it jumped to 4 bars

At 86 MPH it jumped to 6 bars.

At 90 MPH it jumped to 8 bars.

At 95 MPH up to 9 bars.

At 97 MPH up to 10 bars.

At 102 MPH up to 11 bars.

At 105 MPH up to 12 bars.

Coming off the accelerator one the way back down it dropped to 11 at 99 MPH

But not back to 10 until 84 MPH

A sudden drop to 6 bars at 75 MPH

and down to 3 at 73 MPH

and 2 bars at 71 MPH

Never below 2 bars (I believe due to the temperature.)

This morning is was 40 degrees F and I still had 2 bars. So I am not sure at what temperature the 2 bar penalty for low temps kicks in. Though the charge was down to 83%. But I still don’t think that is low enough to matter.
