Meet the new Mazda 6e EV for Europe
Mazda unveiled the 6e at the Brussels Motor Show in Belgium on Friday. The sleek electric sedan is the European version of the Mazda EZ-6, sold in China.

The EZ-6 is made by Mazda’s Chinese joint venture, Changan Mazda. It has been on sale in China since October, starting at just 139,800 yuan, or less than $20,000. Now, Mazda is bringing the Chinese-made EV to Europe.

---------------------

I'm a big Mazda fan so seeing this makes me hopeful. Looks like just a Europe thing for now. Not sure if they will, or can, bring it to the US with the China parts.

What I like: Sedan, but has a hatch making it a 5 door. Good looks. Nice interior. Should have Mazda like handling. Price could be low depending on if they call this a Japanese car or Chinese car. Charging rate and efficiency seem competitive.

What I don't like: Low on power. Only rear wheel drive. I would like to see an AWD version being that I live with snow half the year. If they made one for the US, I would imagine it would have AWD as even the Mazda3 now has that as an option.

What do you guys think? I actually first saw this on youtube, but found this article for posting this on the forum.

Very interesting. Many of the US/Euro brands built plants in China to sell cars into the Chinese market. The Chinese built plants for for Chinese car companies and there is a preference in the Chinese market for Chinese brands. Now, the US/Euro brands are exporting from China and US/Euro domestic production will not be able to compete on price.

Definitely has that current Mazda design theme. Personally, I think it's good looking. And I'm a Mazda fan from many years of Mazdarati ownership. ?

I have a fair weather toy that is fairly modified ND for go-kart handling prowess.

Too bad it's a Chinese origin. That complicates matters for us Yanks.

Big Mazda fan as well and based on bits and pieces of news I've seen, they're working on an EREV using possibly 4 updated rotary engines for the extended range bit. It sounds like one of the last big hurdles is that they're trying to get the rotaries to run cleaner to meet EPA standards.

Mazda is focusing on keeping cars inexpensive for us 'Mericans, so an EREV platform that uses a simpler engine for the ER portion might end up addressing both cost and range anxiety.

Pure speculation on my part based on multiple articles that have bits and pieces of information, but if it's even close to true and they can find that niche of improved range and improved cost, along with keeping the Mazda-ness, it might make things interesting.

I am a Mazda fan as well. I had a 1988 MX-6 GT, 2005 Mazda6 Sport Wagon with a wonderful V6 engine and a 2017 Mazda6 sedan.

We were in Japan for Christmas/New Years and my wife and I talked about retiring in Japan (Okinawa to be exact) and we discussed what cars would we have there... the MX-5 was one on our short list. That and a Toyota Crown... for some reason I really like the look of the JDM Crown!

Off topic, but making our first trip to Japan later this year, and Okinawa is one of our stops. Looks amazing!

It's OK if there is a little off-topic here and there... on that note, add the following to your sightseeing list... our son is stationed at Kadena AFB and he found some great spots to see...

American Village
Dinner at Hama Zushi, breakfast at CC's Chicken & Waffles near the American Village
NuchiMasu Salt Factory (don't miss out on the the Happy Cliff Superb View Point)
Nakabaru Ruins on Miyagi Island
Cape Zampa Lighthouse
Okinawa loves A&W Rootbeer over there. There is one from 1969 that is awesome (A&W Makiminato)
Nago Pineapple Winery
Gyokusendo Cave

I am a WWII buff so if you want to see WWII history... Shuri Castle, Former Japanese Naval Underground Headquarters and the Okinawa Peace Prayer Park and Museum are 3 places to see.

Thank you!

We're in Tokyo for a bit, Okinawa for a bit, and still filling in a few blanks on where to go/what to do.

Really appreciate it!

Further in the article it does day the EU has a 45% or so tax on Chinese vehicles. I'm really hoping they find a way to get some form of this to the US. You can see from my signature that I do like Mazdas. They are very innovative and do so much with so little. I would love a miata. Maybe once the kids get out of the house.

If you are going in the spring, the “Osaka Castle Park Cherry Blossom Festival” is a great visit. Still remember when I went.

In Kyoto, the Nightingale floors are definitely something to see.

Great train system. Using the Shinkansen you can get to anywhere really fast for cheap.

Mazda fan here too. ‘21 Mazda 3 AWD sedan, in the top normally aspirated trim. I love driving that car. I really enjoy the way that 2.5L four spins up and gets on its HP and torque curves. Compared to an electric car, the Mazda is painfully slow but that’s ok. It’s loads of fun and makes me smile…but so does the Mach E. I think for me the perfect Mazda 3 sedan would be the premium plus turbo without the turbo. Funny thing, turns out that is what our Canadian neighbors get with the GT trim level. TBH, I haven’t looked at the Mazda trim levels in some time. It’s possible what once was is no more.

Back to the 6e, if there is any chance of it coming here, let’s see how it survives the translation. I was really anticipating the CX70 in the hope it would be essentially the rest of the world CX60. If that had been the case I think there is a good chance that is what I would have gotten. The CX70 turned out to be so similar to the CX90 it makes me think the planners and designers simply got tired and “mailed it in”.

The history of Mazda wasn't something I knew anything about until after I fetched my first Mazda vehicle. Somehow that led me to some book that I don't even remember what it was called or what I did with it, but I'm sure in this modern era you can learn much of it by clicking links and watching videos.

But what made me a fan was the rebuilding from the ashes of Hiroshima, rather than relocating. As well as the way Mazda has stubbornly held onto many of its manufacturing methods and culture, when most of the industry made fundamental changes.

Pretty cool stuff.

And of course that independent way of thinking has brought the world cars like the rotary powered cars and the infamous Miata. Few manufacturers would have kept investing and producing the Miata.

It is cool. The “M3” converted me. I came close to getting a first year CX50 in turbo form but it just didn’t quite do it for me compared to the RDX. For a while I tried to convince myself the CX5 would be a worthy successor to the ‘20 RDX but ultimately that seemed like a pointless sideways move. But, had the CX70 been basically a CX60 that could have been a winner for me. But I am very happy with the Mach E and life moves on.

I used to have a Mazda 929, and loved the lines and performance. Too bad it was discontinued.
Yet, the lines of the MME are slicker than the 6e. Just sayin’
