Might a sub-300 EPA number cause cancellations? Maybe a few, but there are many existing orders for models previously estimated at well below 300. Thanks for the info! Onward!!
If there are cancellations, I expect they will be minimal.

Yikes.

As comparison:
Tesla Y LR AWD UDDS = 446 / Hwy = 398
Tesla Y Perf AWD UDDS = 409 / Hwy = 376
I suppose the most important comparison here is

  • Mach E ER AWD: Hwy = 339
  • Model Y LR AWD: Hwy = 398

I think the more important consideration is which car you like more. I'm not really enthusiastic about Mach E's styling, but Model Y is hideous. 20-30 miles maximum range won't make a substantial difference in most situations.

So they buffered 11% of the battery and then did not even hit estimated range by 7%. I thought when they felt they could drastically decrease usable it could be expected that estimated would also be met; along with a modest increase. No such luck. Are they working to decrease demand on this vehicle?

Wouldn't a European discussion likely be WLTP, not EPA?
yes, he was talking about EPA, you can go watch it. I think he also talked about WLTP.

All vehicles have emissions certification posted by EPA, even zero emissions vehicles.
Today I finally found the Mach-E certificate summary information (CSI) posted (see links below).

There are two Mach-E vehicles posted; AWD ER and RWD ER.

This data is the unadjusted City/UDDS and Highway/HWFET range
derived from a single test, the SAE J1634 Multi-Cycle Test (MCT).

The data does not look to too promising.

1. All-Wheel Drive Extended Range Mach-E

2. Rear-Wheel Drive Extended Range Mach-E

The certificate also has the road load and test mass information;

The Mach-E is not too svelte at 14.9 road load hp (at 50 mph).

Interesting. Thanks for posting!
I haven't reviewed the links yet......is the MPGe figure listed? That is the number that means the most to me.

So, here’s how I look at it:
Tesla is ruled out in my mind because of quality and lack of an IC (and no “hard” controls)
Ford had been saying “Projected 270 miles” range for the model I want (ER AWD)
They came in at 250 (apparently). This is ~ 93% of their target, which is within 10%. As a person with an engineering background, I’ll take something within 10%. Not going to be the end of my world. May have a significant impact on others.

Range is the result of useable battery energy, powertrain efficiency, and vehicle energy demand through mass and road load (The ETW and Target ABCs in the cert data).
The Application says Ford is still looking at road load determination.

A good way to compare vehicles is test mass ETW and road load (it is evaluated at 50 mph).

And I am only postulating that the adjusted label range will be 250 mi based on the standard methods - but this has not yet been officially posted yet (to my knowledge).

So, I'm confused. Does this mean that one can expect 330+ miles of STRAIGHT HIGHWAY cruising?
