Seriously?!?!? That's only 3 miles less than an AWD SR MME. Hardly qualifies as a complete fail in my book. The XC40 is both really nice and a complete fail, 208 miles at 100% charge is just not even a contender in 2021
3 miles less and $10,000 more. With no option to add range.Seriously?!?!? That's only 3 miles less than an AWD SR MME. Hardly qualifies as a complete fail in my book.
Just saw one yesterday, it is certainly a Volvo, butt- ugly. The XC40 is both really nice and a complete fail, 208 miles at 100% charge is just not even a contender in 2021
I think 200 miles is plenty for most uses. I live in LA and can easily get anywhere in the metro area, including Orange County, on a round trip in my AWD SR Mach-E.Seriously?!?!? That's only 3 miles less than an AWD SR MME. Hardly qualifies as a complete fail in my book.
It's much more expensive and the highest end version. The AWD AR MME is the lower battery range version.Seriously?!?!? That's only 3 miles less than an AWD SR MME. Hardly qualifies as a complete fail in my book.
Volvo is a high end luxury brand. Of course it is going to be more expensive. Have you looked at Audi/Jaguar/Porsche?? From a feature and range perspective the MME does very well against all of them, for a lot less money. Take a look at the materials used in the interior and you will begin to see where your extra dollars go. That and the 'cachet' of the name and the dealer experience. It's much more expensive and the highest end version. The AWD AR MME is the lower battery range version.
The MME is also punching above it's EPA rating, whereas the XC40 is right about equal.
So 208 miles is really 185 miles or so at 90%, then factor in weather on top and you have 150-180. You have to admit that's awful for a brand new 55-60K EV in 2021 ?
That's a well reasoned analysis. Different strokes for different folks as they say. I looked at an XC60 as part of the shopping process for my QX50. My wife and I didn't really care for it. It wasn't bad, just different, and a fair bit pricier.I have test driven both vehicles. The Mach e is bigger and the battery is a longer range. The Volvo has a much better ride and regen braking.. The seats are more comfortable in the Volvo, but feel a little narrower. I like the big screen in the Mach e and feel like it is easier to use. A lot of the features in the Volvo are controlled in the steering wheel, which just has symbols. I have been trying to decide between the two, but I am having trouble deciding. The ride of the Volvo may make the difference. The Mach e has the worst ride of any car we have owned. My wife's Ford C-max had a better ride. With the possible price increase in the Mach e there is not much different between the two. Range v comfort is the biggest difference.
The xc40 recharge is nice inside. But the range and price are in a hard range to compete. Tom moloughney said the same. While the Mache says 90% daily is fine to charge the XC40 recharge wants you only to charge to 80% on daily normal use. On a colder day and if driving fast on the interstate above 70 mph, you will be lucky to get 140 miles of range out of 80%.That's a well reasoned analysis. Some of the other posts bashing on the XC40 as a complete failure seem ridiculous. It is clearly a decent vehicle, just different from the MME. Hopefully we can all come to appreciate quality entries into the BEV space. Don't want to see MME ownership become a cult...
I think it comes down to Volvo adapting an ICE platform for their BEV. I’m sure they could have had a better car on their hands if the XC40 Recharge was engineered from the ground up as a BEV, but it wasn’t, so it’s full of limitations. Probably saved the company a ton of money to do it this way though.Volvo just missed the mark.
I'm sure that's hurting them but I think their tech is also just not up to the others. The Volvo C40 that's coming out is a brand new ground up EV platform and it's estimated range right now is 210 miles.I think it comes down to Volvo adapting an ICE platform for their BEV.
