some apps like google maps and such warn you about speed traps. That works pretty good but in addition to keeping a watchful eye.

I decided to venture and do this without any help or wiring diagrams. I couldn't find ANY resources online for any reference. I managed to figure it out and I took photos along the way to help others that may be wanting to do the same.

I've done many mirror taps in the past, but this one was a bit intimidating, not knowing where to tap because of all the unusually color coded wires, and all the tech involved in this piece.
nicely done!
too bad Ford didn't build in a pre-wired plug for radar detectors.... I'm finding that 90mph comes up way too easy. ;)

PLEASE PLEASE be VERY careful removing the plastic housing. I don't want to be responsible for anyone breaking this piece. Be gentle and take your time.

Circled is the terminal that you will be using removing and tapping into. The release is on the top, towards the windshield.

It’s not a button, I believe it’s a light sensor of some sort.

Does the iRR coating on the front windshield affect a radar detector?
Does the radar detector work through the metallic windshield? Since transponders have a hard time working through it, I wonder if the windshield will also block some signals.
So I have noticed that the radar seems to work fine, but my unit's GPS is not working properly due to the coating. I had to move it to the portion of the windshield where the black dots are, to the left of the housing. It works just fine there. Other transponders should work fine in that space as well. It must have a relatively weak GPS unit inside, since my phone seems to work pretty well being on the charging pad.

thanks jdmrc93 !! I just got my hardwire done for my escort passport max. With your mapping of the wires, and the cautious prying of the plastic, it was a relatively quick install. Only issue now is that the GPS on the escort passport max doesn't seem to be working... i'm going to have to move it around to see if it works better in a different position. Thanks so much!

Thanks for this. Worked perfectly to install my Valentine 1 Gen 2 the other day. Only issue I had was me being an idiot and forgetting to plug the connector back in before turning on the car to test. Ya have to plug the connector back into its home before you get power dumb dumb (me).

I have mine placed directly under the black film to the left of the rearview mirror. That helped with GPS, works perfectly now. BUT I'm getting the feeling that the metallic windshield (which causes the GPS issues) is interfering with Radar/Laser detection.

I take that back, I'm definitely noticing some impairment.

I have mine mounted below the mirror using a Blend Mount. I havent had many bogeys to test with yet but I had a Ka alert that looked like it was coming up behind me while stopped at a red light and getting stronger. The only LEO's came from in front me (1 Sheriff's deputy and a city). I wondered if the V1 Gen2 wasn't able to detect it from the front due to the windshield and was instead getting a reflection off my rear window or something. More testing to come before I confirm this and try to move the detector above the mirror to the black area. Not even sure the best way to do that and hope Blend Mount will accept a return I guess.....

My Valentine 1 Gen 2 is for sure having issues with IRR windshield. I am going to have to move it up next to the mirror in the black area. Looking at this mount:

https://www.amazon.com/Permanent-Wi...c0e50&pd_rd_wg=FUjhM&pd_rd_i=B01IGQPRJ8&psc=1

Concerned the headliner will be in the way and force a bad angle of the V1 though. Anyone try something like this? Bummed that the Blend Mount isn't going to work in the MME.

I have a v1 gen1. With the suction cup clip it is NOT positioned in the black dots area bc of the headliner. I don’t have a solution.
