I decided to venture and do this without any help or wiring diagrams. I couldn't find ANY resources online for any reference. I managed to figure it out and I took photos along the way to help others that may be wanting to do the same.

I've done many mirror taps in the past, but this one was a bit intimidating, not knowing where to tap because of all the unusually color coded wires, and all the tech involved in this piece.

PLEASE PLEASE be VERY careful removing the plastic housing. I don't want to be responsible for anyone breaking this piece. Be gentle and take your time.

Circled is the terminal that you will be using removing and tapping into. The release is on the top, towards the windshield.

The Black Wire is the neutral/ground. Connect the Black tap wire to this. The White Wire is the 12v switched lead. Connect the Red tap wire to this.

How well do radar detectors work in your experience?
I've twice received speeding tickets from the CHP since I started using a radar detector. The first time I didn't believe it, and the second time I had my detector in the trunk after a car show.

The CHP typically keeps their radar on constantly. On I5 through the central valley you'll get dozens of seconds warning.

I use it in conjunction with Waze and Escort Live, and a dash of common sense/knowing the "spots". I haven't gotten a ticket in 4 years. It really does depend on the model. I've been using the Escort Passport 9500ix for 9 years, and I just upgraded it to the Max 360c. The Max has been so much better in terms of early detection and weeding out false positives.

I HIGHLY recommend the YouTube channel named "Vortex Radar"... https://www.youtube.com/user/TravelCam1111

He does excellent reviews and comparisons between models, and does real life testing.

It also depends on where you live. It's great with all radar bands, but if police in your area only use Laser, then you're cooked. If your detector yells "Laser Alert!", that means there's no getting out of that one. The only tickets I've ever gotten were Laser. Never K/Ka/X bands.

The 360 is awesome, and you can add the front facing dashcam as well. Highly recommend!

Did you find the fuse size for that circuit?

The manual wasn't too clear on which module it is, I'm not about to go playing around with circuits in an electric car.

But this is what I found:
  • Fuse #33 - 20Amp - Advanced driver assistance system. (Maybe? There is a camera for self driving in there I think)
  • Fuse #85 - 5Amp - Rain sensor. (Yes)

One or both of those are definitely contained in that housing.

For all the Florida folks remember it is illegal to mount a detector on your windshield.

Any tips on removing the housing?
Don't pull too hard. I just used my fingers, starting at the headliner and worked my way around every time I heard a pop.

You can get a mirror mount I believe, yes? Where it hangs below the rear-view mirror, instead of being mounted directly to the dash?

Given that several ADAS sensors are up there, I’d be hesitant about going in there at all, or introducing any spurious loads or signals up there. They must make a 12V cigarette lighter plug for things like radar detectors and dashboard cameras.
