Does anyone know if Ford has any plans to program MME to charge faster than 150kwh in future? It would be great if we could really utilize the 350kwh chargers I've been seeng at Electrify America stations.

Unlikely. Even the Lightning won't utilize 350.

I think the car has a hardware max current of 450 amp.

At 450A, and depending on the SoC when you plug in, you'll see a max around 165kw, maybe up to 170kw. As the SoC gets higher, the battery voltage goes up, and voltage x current = kw

At 375A which is what an EA 150kw station maxes out at, and what the 350kw units that are being limited are stuck at, about the highest you'll see is around 125kw.

Not clear if that 450amp is the actual max the hardware in the car can do or if its software limited. I think the max any charger goes to is 500amp, so if they could increase that to 500A, we could possibly see up to around 185kw.

Any higher and you'd need to get the battery voltage higher, and that would require a hardware change in the battery itself.

EA 150kWh stations do output 150kWh according to the Ionic 5 I've borrowed. Are you sure MME only get 125kWh at EA 150kWh stations?

Ionic 5 has an 800v battery. It can hit 150kw with much less current needed.

My understanding is Ionic 5 at 400v stations converts 400v to 800v internally to charge.
Curious does that mean the EA 150kWh stations can do both 800v/400v?

No those EA just do 400v, the i5 architecture is 800v so it needs to convert EAs 400v to 800v. Maybe the mme battery cooling is not as good to go any faster than what it does or Ford is not confident in the LG batteries they are using after all the LG battery fires on the bolt. I5 uses SK innovation batteries.

EA stations can output between 150v-900v

The charger matches whatever voltage the car is at.

The difference between an EA 150kw unit, and a 350kw unit, is just the power cabinet. (The big refrigerator looking unit in the fenced area around an EA station) 150kw chargers just have one power cabinet, and 350kw chargers have two. They both output the same voltage, just takes a 2nd cabinet to provide the higher current the 350kw needs.

EA allows you to download the data. Back in 2021, every session for a 150kW station showed a max of 175, and 350s showed a max of 207. Clearly BS data.

I just did a trip and always used a 350kW station. Max rates were 164.6, 159.7, 155.8, 165.8, 149.8, 163.3, 123.6.

That last session would have been one of the 350kw stations that is currently de-rated to 350amp.

Does this mean if there is only one power cabinet, with 4x EA chargers @ 150kW, then 4 cars plugged in would each only be able to draw ~40kW? Or do they always size a certain number of cabinets based on the chargers that will be installed?

EA chargers use dedicated cabinets. If there are 4 chargers, there should be at least 4 cabinets.

If there are 2 150kw and 2 350kw, there should be 6 cabinets.
