With so many of us regularly hitting well above EPA rated range, here is yet another example of the Model Y falling far short in the real world by another reputable reviewer.

The model Y performance is EPA rated at 315 miles, but could not manage a 282 mile trip. In fact the onboard computer reported the trip would result in a -15% battery upon completion. With that said, I'm pretty happy about the fact that Ford under promised and over delivered on the Mach-E!

Interesting for sure... and his experience doesn't match the shiny brochure about supercharging either. Seems odd that with all of Tesla's tech he had to follow another Tesla to find where the chargers were.

Of course, right now Ford's P&C can't really throw stones in its glass house either. But still, good to know that the greener grass over there really is due to the septic tank.

The Tesla worship reminds me of Apple fandom in some ways. My least favorite saying from the iPhone devotees is 'they just work'. As a somewhat reluctant user of company provided iPhones over the last 5 years, I can emphatically say they do not 'just work' any better than my Android phone.

I have never found iphones to be intuitive or easy either - seriously, having the only button on the stupid phone perform 5 different functions depending on how long you hold it down or how many times you tap it is just nowhere near "untuitive". With android there are always a "home" and "back" button in the same place all the time, and they always work the same way. Well, until android jumped on the stupid goofy gesture bandwagon. Thank god in the current version you can turn that nonsense off and keep those buttons always available. Hopefully android doesn't remove the ability to keep the "classic" (ie common sense) menu buttons in a future update.

My least favorite iPhone 'feature' is the tiny little i you need to hit if you want details about a missed/rejected call. Miss that little i and 'holy crap I'm calling the person I didn't want to talk to'. ? ?

You don’t need to hit the i. Err to the right and you’ll never call back another extended warranty salesman again.

Looks like he was in a 2020 Model Y Performance, which has a smaller battery pack vs the 2021 model. The '20 was rated around 290 or 292 miles, I can't remember.

I didn't watch the whole video, way too long, but assuming because he's in Colorado, the topography isn't the flattest. Everyone knows the EPA ratings are based upon ideal conditions that most aren't ever going to see. Flat, no wind, 70F, no heater/no AC, no traffic, etc.

Everyone knows Teslas will struggle to hit the EPA range unless the conditions are perfect and speeds are at 65 mph or lower.

I think you just coined a new word there (untuitive), and I really like it. Un-intuitive.

My company is switching from Jabber to Slack for IM, and Slack seems to alphabetize contacts by Firstname, Lastname. It breaks my brain every time I have to search for someone in the corporate directory by Firstname, then Lastname. Ugh. If there were an option to switch, that would be great (have not found it if it exists).

The other thing I find funny is my wife razzing her other Hospital employees that have trouble unlocking their phones because masks are required at work. Face ID does not work that well, or at least not as good as a fingerprint scanner when you are wearing a mask.

I'm pretty committed to the Apple eco-system at this point, largely because of privacy and security, which mostly does just work.

However, there are times, where I scream at the Macbook trying to find something that just isn't obvious. And, sometimes, the friggin' settings are just buried somewhere. They work but they don't always "just work".

I may be wrong, but I thought the latest Model Y EPA range updates were due to Tesla's changing the adjustment factor in the test cycle, not due to a battery upgrade or even any real software updates to improve efficiency. Basically, the 2021s got a higher range because Tesla decided to say they got a higher range, which they then applied to the 2020s via a "software update".

Googling, it looks like the 2020 Model Y Performance is listed at 303 miles.

And while there are some routes in Colorado that would have a ton of elevation change, Boulder to Pueblo is not that bad. The Palmer Divide is the only serious elevation climb and even that only tops out at just over 6,000 feet. Boulder is at 5,328 feet.

A few weeks ago, I left from Denver and went over 5 mountain passes of over 10,000 feet. I averaged 3.5 miles/kWh which would be 308 miles of range. Another time, I did the Denver to Colorado Springs and back with some city driving as well. That time I averaged 3.7 miles/kWh.

It's due to the battery pack. No changes to the methodology. Here's the 2020 MYP EPA cert, page 20, showing 78 kWh consumed.

These numbers have been confirmed by 3rd party apps that can access the car's CAN bus.
