More Apple Maps integration with Carplay in iOS 18

I upgraded to iOS 18 and I see there is more integration with Apple Maps and the car. Does anyone know if battery preconditioning is now available through Apple Maps?

Trip information on Apple Maps + Mach-E in the dashboard has been a feature since iOS 17 (maybe iOS 16?). Though it required the cars to be updated as well.

Unless I'm missing something else you're trying to highlight from your video?

This has been a thing since ios17. I do want to know if it still holds your navigation hostage when it wants you to charge. Please Apple let me be able to remove charging stations when I want, .

Ford opened up the ability to allow Apple & Google access to the car’s state of charge. This allows them to determine if you’ll need to charge to reach your destination.

As far as I’m aware … the car does not know if it is going to a charging stop as it does when you navigate with the in-car nav system (For purposes of pre-conditioning).

I’ve had that using Apple Maps through CarPlay since I got the car back in March and my phone was on some version of iOS 17.

Google Maps integration into the instrument cluster would be great. Apple Maps is still really bad, it doesn't even tell you if there's traffic on your route when you begin navigating. At least Google shows you a green, yellow, or red number to tell you how bad the trip will be.

Google has had the ability to do that for some time now. Both Apple and Google have had the ability to integrate preconditioning for a charge stop as well. Both have declined to do so as of yet.

Interesting. I use Apple Maps and mine will show slow downs in the route by color. I wonder if you have to enable something in order to allow it to do that.

I really want to use Google Maps with Satellite view since for some reason Apple maps won't offer that option on Carplay. Instead we have the cartoon map. Yuck. SO Google Maps will allow you to use the satellite view but doesn't support EV routing or Arrival SOC%, like Apple Maps.

I can fumble around and switch from Ford to Apple maps, and managed once to get Google maps on. What page of the manual tells us how to more easily do it?

I’ve not been able to find it on Google Maps but I’ve sold my soul to Apple anyway

Since mid 2020, Apple Maps has shown traffic conditions in real time to display the current traffic status on roads, including congestion, hazards, road closures, accidents, and construction. The traffic information is indicated by color-coded lines and symbols, with green indicating clear traffic, yellow for moderate congestion, and red for heavy traffic. Additionally, Apple Maps provides estimated travel times based on current traffic conditions, and will suggest alternate routes to avoid traffic if available. Depending on my route, Maps will give me a pop up box next to heavy traffic (red lines) stating how much longer my route will take because of the traffic. Also alerts me if there are speed checks ahead and intersections that have red light cameras.

All of these can be turned off in settings (alerts, traffic, etc.) so maybe the vehicle you were in they were unless it was before 4 years ago.
