So I've had my first real issue with the MME. I was out with my son earlier today, and when he got into the passenger seat, he tried to close the door and it just bounced back open. Upon examination, I saw that the opening plunger was stuck in the extended position. I know at least one other person on the forum has reported this happening to them also, but it doesn't seem to be super widespread.

I tried everything I could think of, but nothing would make the plunger retract. So we drove home with my son holding the door as close to closed as he could. I called the dealer when I got home and they said to bring it in or I could have it towed. I didn't really want to deal with a tow truck, but also didn't have anyone available to hold the door closed while I drove to the dealer, so I improvised with some paracord. It was enough to get me to the dealer without incident.

They took it in to look at right away, but were closing soon (weekend hours), so they gave me their FCTP Mach-E as a loaner. It's a Select model with Comfort and Technology package in Space White. Not all that different from my Premium other than the steel roof, smaller wheels, and some cosmetic differences.

Since it's in the shop anyway, I asked them to also apply the software update SSM for PaaK and to check Oasis for any other module updates that apply to my VIN. Not sure if they really will without specific complaints of other issues, but we'll see. I guess I'll find out more on Monday. Could be worse.

First things first… I’m glad you and your son are safe. This is a scary potential issue. I wonder if opening up the low voltage battery would have helped?

Maybe. If it was easier to get to the LVB, I would have tried that. But I didn’t want to deal with removing those panels and braking some clips without knowing if it would make a difference.

There was another thread about this. The door latch was the problem, IIRC. I thought they were able to push the plunger back in manually.
Make sure to test the interior release handle when you pick it up. I'm sure the other post said the tech forgot to hook up the cable.

This is the post stating the plunger can be pushed in manually:

The OP of that thread @Evermore reported successfully pushing it in, and that the latch fixed the issue.

Thanks, I do remember reading that thread at the time but didn’t recall all the details. I did try to push the door closed with as much force as I could muster, but that little plunger wouldn’t budge.

Hacksaw/warranty. If a proper work-around isn't in the manual....... Ya gotta get home.

It's hard to imagine that they didn't think this would come up someday, it really is disabling. ...Is a fix in the manual?

The thread I linked provides a fix. Either push the plunger in by hand, or gently bring the door into contact with the plunger than muscle it closed.

Wow! Glad you and your son are ok! Also glad that your dealer hooked you up right away. Let us know if they do all the software updates and how the repairs go.
I thought I read someplace on here that someone else had that problem once and they were able to push the plunger back in?

Yup, I tried that, but it wouldn’t budge. I guess its chance of success depends on what’s causing the issue.

hello. I had that exact same problem. I got the door closed up until the plunger stopped it and then pushed very hard on the door from the outside to get it closed.
Good luck! The latch fix worked for me.

Thanks. Hopefully it will be an easy fix. Did you have to wait long for them to order a new latch?

It was about a 4 day fix. Longest part was them getting the piece shipped.
Check for sure that it’s fixed at the dealership and you can get out from the inside. First dealer replaced something else that didn’t matter for the fix and also forgot to hook up the interior door latch when putting it back together.
