FordPass Rewards is having a spring sale for 20% off accessories. Should I get the Ford fast charging adapter (NACS)? It is $200. After the 20% discount, it’s $160. With shipping and sales tax, the total $185.25. It’s a good deal but it is worth it? Do I need the adapter? I am planning a road trip so it would probably be handy for that. With the discount, I would say it’s worth it for road trips. Does it actually charge fast tho?

Last question first, you should see no reduction in rate of charge due to the adapter. I have used the Ford adapter shown and gotten the full power expected. I have not charged in excessive heat, so I cannot comment on that situation. However, I have not heard of an issue there.

More options for charging, even if only for backup alternatives, are good to have. Many Superchargers are more conveniently located than CCS alternatives in the same area. That said, amenities are hit or miss.

If you don't have one, a Tesla Destination charger to J1772 adapter is another item that could be very useful on a road trip.

I got the combo deal from A2Z, and I find the products, and the cases they came in. to be of high quality. There is a question on the use of non-approved adapters, so take that into consideration.

If you are planning a road trip you ought to check ABRP (A Better Route Planner) to see what kinds of chargers you will find on your route. In case you are not aware of it, there are two different kinds of Tesla charger adapters: one for the Superchargers (high speed DC chargers, usually found in shopping centers or parking lots) and Tesla Destination Chargers (Level 2 AC chargers, often found at hotels). You need two adapters if you want to charge both places. The Ford adapter works with the Superchargers, but not the destination chargers.

Additionally, the older V2 Tesla Superchargers and some of the V3 units are not compatible with CCS-1 cars. Make sure to double-check in the Tesla app whether an installation is compatible. ??

I agree that also having the other adapter for Destination chargers would be handy. Lots of hotels and travel spots have Destination chargers so having that adapter might let you avoid an entire charging stop or two on road trips. Plan ahead though because there could be delays in getting it. I ordered this adapter from A2Z but it took 2.5 weeks to arrive. Just got it yesterday.

I would get it at that price. My experience at most Tesla V3 and V4 chargers is above and beyond Electrify America and Charge Point locations. Better facilities. Nicer people. Fewer broken chargers.

That is a fair price for the OEM DCFC Level 3 adapter.

As mentioned earlier you can pick up an AC Level 2 adapter to have the ability to charge at hotels / parking lots or shopping centers that have a Tesla Destination charger or Tesla home charger.

Lots of folks use a NACS Level 2 charger / Tesla destination chargers and pair it with an adapter to use it on their vehicle with J-1772 plug.

I would recommend the A2Z Stellar NACS to J-1772 adapter which is available for $92, compact build, has a built in lock, good customer service / warranty and overbuilt for futureproofing.

Discount promo code “FORD” is still working and free shipping is also available.

A2ZEV NACS To J1772 adapter (Hotel Destination Charger for Hotels / Shopping centers) | Up to 80A | 20kW | 12 Months Warranty

You can use the same Tesla Find Us link to locate Tesla Level 2 destination chargers.

Tesla Find Us Superchargers available with adapter / Magicdock location Chargers

For level 2 AC - I personally bought the 48 amp Lectron and gave it away to a forum member and prefer to use the 80 amp A2Z Stellar with built in lock and compact design.

I would recommend sticking with known brands like Lectron, A2Z and TeslaTap for your Level 2 AC adapter.

I would recommend the A2Z Stellar NACS to J-1772 adapter which is available for $92, compact build, has a built in lock, good customer service / warranty and overbuilt for futureproofing.

The level 2 adapter will pay for it self overtime by avoiding an expensive fast charge on the road every night while you sleep at the hotel with Tesla destination charging.

If you need one ASAP in 2 - 3 week time you can always order the A2Z Stellar AC NACS to J-1772 Level 2 adapter using the forum discount code "FORD", one of the most popular adapters currently being used by Rivian owners, F-150 lightning owners, GMC / Chevy Owner and Mustang Mach-E owners.

Discount promo code “FORD” is still working and free shipping is also available.

A2ZEV NACS To J1772 adapter (Hotel Destination Charger for Hotels / Shopping centers) | Up to 80A | 20kW | 12 Months Warranty

Here is a good example of 10+ free level 2 AC Tesla destination chargers 8 kW - 16kW charging available at a grocery store only if you have an adapter. This is commonly found at malls, shopping center, movie theaters, etc.

The Rivian you see is using DCFC level 3 with an adapter

Thanks @Madtroniks for the useful information and the picture. I would have thought that the chargers in the picture were superfast ones. I wasn't familiar with destination chargers.

I just tried the code FORD on the a2z link you quoted, and it didn't work.

You're welcome. The destination charger adapter also comes in handy when Valet only has Tesla chargers on site.

I use mine all the time and was well worth the price when I bought it last year.

I noticed a couple things for the NACS charger to J1772 adapter by A2Z EV.

The pre discount price changed from $92 to $96 and the post discount price went from $88 to $91.20 with free shipping.

The discount code "FORD" should work as seen below but now with the price change the final price will be $91.20.

Go to checkout and see if you can apply the discount code to knock the price down.

You can always try incognito mode or clear your cookies to see if that helps with applying the "FORD" discount code as seen below.
