Hey all,

Looking to keep my Ford Mobile Charger that came with the car at home and keep something else in the car for those times when I need to plug into a regular outlet to charge.

I came across this Lectron charger on Amazon with good reviews and see it only comes with a NEMA 10-30 plug. In the case I want to plug into a standard household outlet for a trickle charge, can I use the below RV adapter to safely do so?
Charger:https://amzn.to/3jvkGjY
Adapter: https://amzn.to/3AerEj5

There's also this one from Lectron which is a 5-15 version but I think I'd like to have the flexibility of the 10-30/Level 2 speed if I need it (and can find an outlet for it): https://amzn.to/2TohJHd

Thanks

I think you'd be better off buying something dedicated for home and take the Ford Mobile charger with you as it can do both 120V and 240V. Especially since the one you're planning on buying is only 240V.

Much greater flexibilty that way.

While I agree, I don't really want to shell out $600+ right now on a home charger when the Ford Mobile Charger does an excellent job at level 2 charging. This Lectron one is more for rarer "I need to trickle charge this sucker" moments. It's down to like $171 on their website.

So you'll eventually spend $600 + $171 because in the future you'll end up purchasing one for home anyway....?

Yes, I know, I'm the guy with 4 of them ... ;)

Sorry, no. Won't be getting one of the "smart" wall chargers for home because it's not needed.

Clipper Creek:
$484: https://store.clippercreek.com/amazinge/amazing-e-fast-32-14-50

Grizzl-E:
$449: https://grizzl-e.com/product/usa/chargers-usa/grizzl-e-classic-nema-14-50/

Granted they aren't $171 but they aren't $171 quality either.

Note that neither of these are "smart".
Yeah, that's what it's coming down to. Go with one of those for the home or spend less on the charger I won't use very often except when traveling and not near a DC fast charger.

Or...I could just take the Ford Mobile Charger with me on those occasions ?

Do you need to take a charger with you? L2 charging is usually done at EVSE stations and L1 is just about useless on a road trip.

The only case use i see is pulling in to camp ground that has 14-50 outlets.

More for the times when you're at a house or airbnb or whatever that has standard outlets available and you can add 30-50 miles over half a day of charging (in which case maybe going with the 5-15 version is better).

Yeah maybe. Not many people have spare 240v outlets in their house.

Agreed! Definitely coming around to just the 5-15 version for those top-off moments. $170 flyer on something that has good Amazon reviews and won't be my main charger.
