I've had my car for 2-1/2 weeks and 400+ miles and everything has been wonderful.

Today, as I was approaching a stop sign, I received a collision avoidance warning. This was on a lonely, rural road with absolutely no other vehicle (or anything else in motion) in sight. If it happens again, I may have to reduce the sensitivity of the collision detection, which I kind of hate to do.

Then later, on the same trip, Sync tells me "Please try again". As if I had pressed the voice command button and it couldn't understand me. But I was simply driving with my hands at 10 & 2 o'clock on the wheel - nowhere near the buttons - with music playing on the radio.

I don't really have a question or anything - just wanted to document it in case others see similar issues.

Thanks

I've had that happen once with the collision avoidance but there was a vehicle in front of me, just really far in front.

I'm guessing Sync heard one of the 'wake up' phrases from you or the radio. Like 'OK Ford".

I hadn't thought of that....I wish I could remember what song was playing at the time. :D

I had the same thing happen today too. Freaked me and my wife out. There were no cars in front of me at all so not sure happened

Were you using intelligent cruise at the time? We know that it recognizes and sometimes misinterprets speed limit signs. It doesn't seem like a stretch that the system might recognize stop signs.
Regarding the Sync question, I agree with @hybrid2bev . iPhones regularly seem to think they heard someone say 'hey Siri'.

Listening to books on tape in the car frequently sets off my Google assistant. I can just imagine the day when authors purposely insert phrases into their books that sound like "siri" or "ok Google" just to mess with the readers ?

While the system may recognize stop signs (or it might not, we don't know), it's not currently using this information for ADAS on our vehicles.

North American Mach-E's feature "speed limit recognition," meaning they try to optically recognize speed limit signs.

European Mach-E's feature "traffic sign recognition." They recognize and alert the driver to a few other signs beyond speed limits, such as No Overtaking and Wrong Way.

Just because it's not supposed to use that info on US vehicles is no guarantee that it isn't. ;)
Seems like way too much of a coincidence that the warning came as the vehicle was approaching a stop sign.

Yeah I suppose so. And yeah I'm speculating here, but it seems more likely that the stop sign was misinterpreted as an obstacle that the car was about to drive into.

... though even that seems unlikely unless the sign was directly in the vehicle's projected path, similar to driving towards a barricade just before turning left or right.

I dunno? ?‍♂

No, no cruise mode was active.

But good point about the stop sign recognition. The road I was on jogs slightly left just before the stop sign. I would have been headed directly at the sign just before it happened. This road is the one I have to take to leave my house, so I drive it all the time. This is probably the 20th time on this route with my MME and the first time it's happened. I'll do some testing to see if I can trigger it again.

Have you checked the front sensors for debris? My wife's car had the auto brake collision avoidance kick in a few times at weird locations, like pulling into our garage. We had driven through a swarm of bugs just before that started happening. I gave the car a bath, and the issue stopped.

Car is currently pretty clean - not pristine. Thanks for the suggestion.

sort of off-topic, but is anyone else annoyed that the "intelligent" cruise control with speed limit sign recognition is not intelligent enough to realize that school zone speed limits don't need to be followed at night or on weekends?

Thank god, someone posted in another thread how to turn off the school zone alerts in the navigation settings. But it's annoying when my care unnecessarily slows down in a school zone.

School zones are not detected by sign reading - it's based on map data, and the map data is horrible, at least in my area. My car detects 4 school zones - only one is actually a school, and two others are not detected. Add to that, in Illinois, the speed limits are only in force when kids are present outside the building between 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM. There is no way this can work.
I disabled mine.

You can change cruise control from "intelligent" to "adaptive". I don't find automatically adjusting set speed of cruise control a useful feature. I think that's the only difference.
