Didn’t we know this was coming from the Tesla website? It was inevitable for them to file new numbers with EPA.

I will state the number 400 miles; 5 cycle, @ the discretion of the administrator, epa directed on the up and up by the current administration. It has been stated a number of times here Tesla's number in the real world may be about as good as there roofs and bumpers. Nothing new for them to push the narrative now they see what is coming.

It looks like the media is using us of stories again. My post came out a day before that article.

Do we know whether the range bump is due to
(1) they made actual efficiency improvements recently, or
(2) they were able to achieve higher scores with the same car.

The most interesting and important point is that MPG numbers were always about "how much will it cost to run the vehicle?" That's a non-issue for BEVs because they are so cheap to operate. If you get a much more efficient vehicle you save ... wait for it ... $50 a year! (For me it would be half that because of the off peak electrical rates). For BEVs the efficiency numbers are all about "what's the range?"

When you get to that question it's hard to interpret Tesla's numbers because they diverge so much more than average from the EPA numbers.

Other that maybe 5 people at Tesla, everyone would be guessing. My guess is 10% of number one, and 90% number 2. Ok, that came out wrong. You get my drift.

Driving the EPA test cycles are a skill. A skilled person can get results that can never, ever, ever be achieved in the real world. It is up to the companies conscience to decide what number to publish. Looks like Tesla is going for broke, I doubt Ford will. I think the real world efficiency gap will be much closer than the paper one.

Sure it can. Keep the faith. I'd put my money on Hyundai if I become a fan boy. EPA has become meaningless in part due to Tesla and real world is where it at. Us early adopters will not know for a year where we really stand. Part of the fun of picking.
