First off, I just want to thank all of the great people in this forum. I've been lurking daily for a few months. Never bothered to create an account or post. Just wanted to see what the feedback was while I waited to make the Mach E GT my next daily driver. Figured I would share my experiences now that I'm finally an owner!
My impressions of the car after about 350 miles:
Ordering - I ordered mine on June 6th. No reservation. I got it on October 21st. I know that alone will get a lot of hate. I've seen the horror stories. I'm sorry to all those who are still waiting. My dealer said they only had one MME prior to this shipment; but on this one they had gotten 3 GTs and 1 Premium, so maybe I got lucky as they caught up on their allocation?
Model - GT w/ Panaramic Roof and 360 Camera. Dark Matter Grey.
Dealer - Mullinax Ford in Olympia, Washington. Great interaction with the sales guy throughout the process; almost nothing other than a call to confirm the order and then he let me know when it arrived (or I let him; I was glued to the trackers!). I never spoke with them before I ordered.
I will say, while it ended well, you do have to be careful with finance. They said they never heard of Ford Options or the online purchase option. They also tried to have the extended warranty as a "requirement". I ended up getting it, but only after I got a 40% discount. They had the sales price as 5k over MSRP, and initially showed me that they were taking it off as a $5000 rebate, but then on the final invoice they had put the $5k markup back on. I called them out on it, they talked to the manager, and they honored the MSRP. They also gave a much better offer on the trade-in than Carvana, Ford, or KBB would have lead me to believe. I'm calling it a win, but pay attention!
Driving Experience - I have never felt so confident in a car doing what I want it to do, but admittedly, the closest thing I've driven to this level of car is a toss-up between a 2011 Mustang GT or 2013 Infiniti G37; it actually feels like a faster hybrid of the two in the driving experience. Slam the accelerator? Whoosh. Take a turn too fast? It might slip just enough to be fun but always gets back centered easily. Wet roads with sticks, pine cones, and leaves all over? We got this. I haven't felt it was too "bouncy", though the suspension is pretty stiff. I had to make an emergency run to get my wife to the hospital and, you know, even with very little experience in the car, I felt confident in racing down backroads highways and the interstate in pouring rain in the wee hours of the morning. Since I'm not worried about the racetrack, I feel the car is capable of doing anything I could ever hope for in my use case.
Comfort / Interior - The seats are great for bigger people. I didn't find much in the way of references before, but I'm 5'11 and 380lbs, and the regular GT fits just fine (no idea about the PE version!). Plenty of room in and out of the door. Pretty much everything else has been reviewed to death by others. I like the stereo but I may follow suit with others and upgrade the subwoofer. It is a bit light on the bass for my taste.
Software - The interface is responsive and I think the updates on the later editions are working much better than early reviews would have lead me to believe. Thank you to all the great "beta-testers" who have struggled with these systems at launch. I just really haven't found anything particularly glitchy. PAAK has worked perfectly for me once I disabled the "all the time" function; it just drained too much power. Now I turn the application on before I use the vehicle and it connects 100% of the time, even if sometimes it takes a couple presses on the lock to get the door to realize I'm right there. A few minor things, like Auto-Fold being enabled but not working until after using the door control, but whatever. I use Android Auto and it works like a charm; though there is an overheating issue if using PAAK, Android Auto, and the Wireless Charging at the same time - so my phone stops charging. Plugging it in fixes this. Hopefully the FordPass app will get some power consumption optimizations, but that's all I could really complain about related to the software.
Cleaning - So this will be my one real gripe with the car. There are tons of grooves, angles, drip catches, and gaps. Up here in the Pacific Northwest, our roads are covered with grime and pine needles. My brand new car looks way worse than my other vehicles because it just traps everything. I might even throw in some pictures later... it's just going to be something to consider for buyers depending on where they live. I'll figure out how easy it is to clean this weekend.
If you managed to read all this, thank you, and I hope it helps!
