After research I have narrowed down my MachE choice to the MachE Select Standard Range, with Comfort/Tech Pkg and AWD. This seems to best match for my needs. I can't seem to find any reviews that go into detail. Almost all reviewers are Extended Range and loaners. Alex on Autos is great and he answered most of the questions not mentioned below. If you don't need the EXT range, the SEL w/ tech pkg seems like a good choice?

Cross shopping with ID4 AWD. MachE availability is hard to ignore...

- What is charging curve for the Standard Range battery?
- Does the AWD with the STD Range battery feel ~ 0.5 slower than the Ext Range AWD?
- highway passing difference between STD range and EXT range?
- how's the headroom in the SELECT?
- interior Lighting std vs ext range
- tires std vs ext range
- AC charging std vs ext range. It should be the same?
- 80% DC fast charging on std range battery
- DC fast charging is limited to 115kW on Std range ok..
- DC fast charging std range pre-conditioning?
- Navi accounts for std range battery
- regenerative braking with STD range battery near full [e.g. greater than 90% SOC]
- std range battery is more efficient drive train? Smaller battery is less weight?
- comfort tech pkg includes power tailgate (any diff between SEL and PRE) with the tech package feature
- noticeable difference with Acoustic Laminate Glass - Front-row side window - Select vs Premium
- SEL AWD w/ tech pkg vs Premium AWD is less than $2k -
- Tow hitch for bike hitch .. no difference between SEL vs Preimum
- LED projection vs reflectors are ok. One youtuber demonstrated but not sure I have seen a live demo between SEL vs. Premium lights head-2-head

There are quite a few forum members with both those configurations who can give real world snd honest input. I’m not one though. ;)

Since I have a configuration close to what you're asking about, I'd like to know too.

I would not call the headlights passable. The Premium lights are okay, nothing spectacular. They're assessed as "Good" by IIHS, the lowest passing score.

Selects, on the other hand, get headlights that fail the IIHS testing and are rated "Marginal."

I would be skeptical about ordering anything with the LED reflector headlight for this reason. The SR RWD Premium would be where I would look instead.

Sure I care about all those things. I also care about money (a lot...). So, I would like to know from those reviews what is the best bang for my buck. Yes, I understand that to cover all my dreams and desires, I just can do it simple - just go and buy GT Performance, but that is the problem - I can't afford it. So, I would love to know where I can stretch (or drop) my finances to get a most reasonable of most features as possible.

I got a Select, AWD, standard battery, NO comfort package.
My priorities were keeping the weight and cost down.

My guestamate is that the added weight of the extended range battery offsets the added accel from slightly higher voltage. So, I decided to save the weight and cost and go with standard battery.

I figured glass roof weighed more than steel, so I got steel.

Just DIY installed a TorkLift hitch, so got that covered for the bike rack....

..... all that said .... I am happy with the compromises I made. My MME is not 'the fastest', but it provides the balance of cost/performance I was looking for in my usual urban/suburban use, and only occasional longer trips.

I was debating Select vs. Premium AWD standard range as well and opted for the Premium.

* Add-on packages for Select are included in Premium. I want items from both options.
* LED Projector Headlamps with Auto High Beam -- Premium only
* B&O Sound System -- Premium only
* 19" Machined-face Aluminum with High Gloss Blackpainted pockets vs 18".
* Solid metal roof -- Select only.

The price difference seemed neglible enough to just go Premium and not have to deal with customization delays/problems.

Note: The glass roof cracking issues makes me wary, but glass survived the rollover crash so its more solid than I originally thought. I really wish there was a solid roof + sunroof option where I can enjoy the fresh air.

Just ordered so no reviews.

Yeah, I like the pano glass roof a lot, but tbh I wish a moonroof/sunroof was an option. I don't actually care too much if it was in a glass or metal surround.

I have a Premium AWD SR but I have neither driven a Select nor Premium ER AWD so I can’t answer your questions directly about a comparison.

About the acceleration, I will say the SR AWD feels very fast to me. I wouldn’t be upset with more because more is more and I have a bit of lead foot, but it definitely feels very fast as it is. My 2006 Mustang GT has a similar 0 to 60 time (low 5 seconds), but the SR AWD Mach-E feels a lot faster because of the instant max torque. I suspect this is true for any BEV that has an equivalent 0 to 60 time to an ICE vehicle.

I’d also add that the 0 to 60 time feels more usable. On my Mustang GT, I often find myself holding back from laying on the accelerator because anything above 50% throttle makes such a scene. Even with my old turbo four Chevy Equinox that I traded in, the car was quite slow, but I’d be self-conscious about gunning it even though it would hardly move because I didn’t want to be that guy revving my engine to the stratosphere as I pulled away from a stoplight, even though I wasn’t moving fast at all.

Anyway my point here is that because the Mach-E is so silent, I have no qualms about accelerating hard on say an incline because it doesn’t make a scene in the way an ICE does. So whether you are at 30%, 50%, 70%, or 90% throttle it all sounds the same. So if you have even an SR RWD, my feeling is the 70%-100% throttle range is more usable so you may not miss the higher acceleration figures as much as you think.

On the other hand, if you are interested in all out acceleration, see yourself completely flooring it often, plainly some variants are faster than others. But if your concern is just reasonable acceleration from a stop or merging onto a freeway, my feeling is you can just use, e.g., 80% of the throttle in a way you might be hesitant to on an ICE because of the noise, vibration, and attention an ICE draws.

Totally agree!! The glass roof for example is something I am not interested since you can't cover/black out.

All the reviews that I have watched/read mentioned the car is quiet, but not sure how much of that is because of the acoustic glass.

I will test drive but sometimes can't catch some details during a short drive. \
Thank You for the response

My Mach-E Premium is by far the quietest car I have been in. I’ve spent a decent amount of time in European luxury sedans, and the Mach-E Premium is much quieter, both on surface streets and on freeways.

For sure the acoustic laminate must play some part but my feeling is that if the Premium feels so extraordinarily quiet, even the Select must be quite good in its own right, but again, no personal experience with a Select.

Thanks for the response. The AWD is high on my list. The range reduction due to AWD is something I am ok with. The AWD option has more torque [than RWD] but less HP which make me think highway passing is better with a bigger battery. Highway passing is something I am interested in.

I also hope the AWD feels/drives more stable with hard acceleration.
TFL did a AWD test and it seems the Ford didn't do as well as some competitors.
Cross shopping the ID4 AWD not sure which is better mostly interested with ice/snow roads.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

If anyone has charging speed especially DC FAST charging speeds with the AWD Standard range that would really help. If I have to drive 350-400 miles in a day, what is the difference in time between STD vs EXT range. AWD is preferred so referencing AWD STD Range trips of longer than 300 miles.
Since it seems the charging curve changes dramatically at 80% SOC, if we assume ~200mi for 100% @ 70 mph, then first stop will charge to 80% which should give about at 160 mi. If this estimate is correct than totally ok with AWD STD Range. if we use Ford #'s 68 KWH (211 mi) vs 88 KWH (270 mi), it seems the smaller battery pack is more efficient.
But if the smaller battery pack takes longer to charge to 80% .. 😟..

The AC charging is also something I am interested in. The 11 kW rating applies to any trim but I wanted to confirm. Anything greater than 10kW AC charging will work.
