So I made an interesting discovery recently, just for funsies I decided to put my car in to metric mode. Everything did change to kilometers except for the speedometer. I found that odd. Anybody have any ideas why?

Honestly, the only thing that I can think of is that it's reading the speed signs in miles per hour, and refuses to display units that are different from the speed limit.

Guess I will just have to head up to Canada to see if the smell of hockey and Tim Hortons coffee will change my car's mind about the metric system.

I've always thought of hockey as an unusually smelly sport.

I just discovered this myself after experiencing the same issue over Labor Day weekend. There is a separate setting for the speedometer in Settings>Vehicle all the way at the bottom past the option to reset driving history. Felt very silly for not finding it earlier, but maybe not as silly as splitting the option off and hiding it down there in the first place.

Really? That's it? That's absurd! Thank you for sharing your findings

I can see some logic to it - for someone hopping the border setting the speedometer to the local units is a must so you don't speed, but one might want the rest of the display (like temperature) to be in familiar units.

yes, this is exactly it. as someone who has occasionally crossed into Canada, this is typically what I want.

Same here. Imagine if every time you crossed the border you had to see your tire pressure in kilobars? That would be more than I could take.

I believe this is because the UK requires the ability to have both metric and imperial options on their speedometers. As odd as it sounds, they actually use miles and mph on their roads.

That's interesting.. I knew you could change only the temperature settings - I'm a foreign living in the US and refuse to use F :). But never knew you could change half of the distance settings

I don't disagree with you there. For me the absurd part is that they don't put all of those settings in the same place.

As a side note, that would be cool if you could set it to be automatic, like switching time zones

I thought I saw a separate option to also change the speedometer. I'll check mine today and report back.

And they use metric for everything else.

There is a reason we keep them on an island. ?

LOL and us Americans use Imperial for almost everything but fasteners and medicine. I’d actually prefer we go back on the fasteners. I’ve seen too many counterfeit metric fasteners.
