Whats the benefit, you still need the dealer to sign off. Maybe I am missing something.
being able to do the credit app completely within Ford land and not in dealer land was huge for me. I didn't want the dealer to do "shopping around" games on the credit application or any of that nonsense.

it also let me see all the Options stuff light up correctly...

if I was trading in, avoiding the back and forth on that would have been a big deal for me. none of this "gaming the trade-in amount" nonsense. and if I didn't trust the dealer to honor the Ford site, I'd at least have a competitive number to look at Carvana etc. with.

it told me about accessories that I might not have known about...

and, if my dealer had their act together, it could have been a "walk in/dealer drive up, get the keys, tada." I suspect some people will get that "ideal" experience.

if you've ever been through the multihour "sitting wasting time at a dealer while the finance person waits so you're worn down" nonsense...

my dealer, which definitely did not have their act together, didn't do the extended warranty hard push or anything, I suspect because I had been through all of this.

but these are all my takes on it.

Great informational thread. If I'm assuming correctly, it seems like you'd have the option to check out your car/maybe test drive before you sign the papers (or tablet).
yeah other than the credit inquiry nothing was set in stone until the very end.

Wow. Wish that had been available for me. I’d have been totally all in on that. One step closer to being able to skip the dealer entirely.

yeah it literally lit up on the Ford site like the day my car was delivered to the dealer or the day before. sometimes long delays end up working out! 😂

I ended up acting like I was going to place a new order, then configuring the Ford options financing with my down payment and terms. And then had to print that sheet out and email it to the dealer to show him what I was doing before he could figure out how to make it happen. Basically had to do his job for him anyway, so why not cut him out of the process.

by the way "why did you watermark the pictures it's hard to read parts of them" because we know this site is a "news source" for other sites ;)
I’m just waiting to see “Ford Authority has learned through super secret inside sources that customers can now complete parts of their purchase online.”

Also for CA residents who have done the buying process online, did the $1500 Clean Fuel Reward show up?
It did not show when I went through the online process so I did not complete it and just did it at the dealer. What was funny was that the online process saw my $500 deposit but the dealer did not and wanted us to complete the process without it and they would “refund it later because the person who had the records was on vacation”. When we insisted they find it and credit it (after pulling up a copy of the cc statement showing they charged it), they did some additional digging and finally found it (credited to the wrong order supposedly).

Thanks for sharing the process. Unfortunately, I never had that option light-up on my Ford owner site so did the in person electronic form via what the Finance Manager called the document desk. All the forms appeared in a screen that covered the entire desk. At the end of the signing process, he gave me a flash drive that contained all the forms we'd signed.

The process at my dealer didn't take that long but I would have preferred to do it from home before I got to the dealer.

In fact, my Ford Owner site still shows my car in transit. I took delivery 2 weeks ago...

This is fantastic news. Can't wait to take advantage of the online purchase process when my order arrives in 2032.

The downside to all this is if I just want to go to a dealer nearby right now and buy one on the lot I still have to deal with them and their finance guy's funny games.

I think I'd pick the "Sign at dealer" option so that, in case they didn't listen to me and slapped one of their stupid stickers on the rear, I could tell them the sticker goes or I'm refusing delivery 😀 (also so I could be sure the "We owe" is correct before I agree on a purchase this big).

I personally would never buy without thorough walk around / checklist run through and at least a half or full day test drive (alone). After all, we're spending more on this car than (mostly) anything other than our house!

Thanks for posting this!

I was worried about plan PIN entry, but this removes my fears. I also like to have the credit check happen online. I can remove the protections and put them up again in one quick swoop.

Even though this whole process has huge asterisks and dealer may change, it's nice to at least have things that can be done remotely squared away.

My experience was that it did not light up until overnight - my car had arrived at the dealer Wednesday morning, about 10:45 am, but this process wasn't available until Thursday morning.
Since I'm cutting very close to my current car registration renewal, I may not be able to wait for the site to kick in to use this service. :/

I believe that passing on the Extended Warranty was a very wise decision.

The most popular Ford ESP dealers on the F-150 main forum are Flood Ford and Zeigler Ford. Be sure to check both, they do compete. I am covering both of my vehicles with plans from Zeigler, mainly to cover the electronics. I would also recommend Enhanced Rental coverage, cheap if you should ever have a problem.

Unfortunately, Florida dealers fixed their state laws preventing you from buying ESP's out-of-state, so you are screwed. Lots of Ford unhappy campers in Florida.
