Earlier this week I placed a order for Mach E premium. My order # is 10522XXX. What does this number mean...the dealer says they anticipate getting the vehicle in February, but it seems to me that I will be waiting a lot longer.

Are the order numbers more or less sequential (ie 22,000+ cars ahead of my order)?

I see some orders where the first 3 digits are 100, 104 and 105 does this mean anything?

Are orders subject to dealer allocations, or are they processed in a more or less first ordered first delivered manner?

I guess you placed your new order through Ford.com yourself? If so, that's what those order numbers look like.

They're roughly incrementing but not always, and they don't seem to be consecutive but we aren't sure.

Anyway, if you check your order status online and it says Accepted by Dealer then you're good to go for now.

None of us know when you'll get your car. But you will hear again from Ford when the next step is reached -- assignment of its build week into the factory queue.

What that number says if there are lots of people in line ahead of you. Most of the tens of thousands who had a reservation made in Nov. 2019-June 2020 and already converted to a reservation will be scheduled before yours. I doubt you’ll see your car any sooner than April.

With a number that high (over half a million) then I might suspect that Ford is using the same online order system for both the Bronco and Mach E. If so, then all it means is there are a lot of people ordering vehicles via that system.

I'm not so sure. There are a couple orders in the order tracking post in the 400,000s that already have a build date in January and February. And they ordered as late as September 2020.

I think the order numbers are partially sequential, and partially temporal.
Mine is about 449k I think, but I have no build date yet.
My dealer thought it would be around February.

That's gotta be it. Sequential, and shared with other new car orders company-wide. Maybe for the 2021 model year.

Will be interesting to see the order numbers for the 2022 mach-e.

My dealer told me the ordering number system is also used for the new Bronco, not certain if this is true. If so, very hard to determine how far down the line someone's order is.

I'm keen to believe that!

Please show me those in the tracking sheet. The highest number I see with a build date is
Ford Mustang Mach-E Order number decoding 1605536126608
, ordered in August, with a February build date.

Reservation/order numbers were never absolute indicators, only an easy proxy. It was reservation/order date that mattered. The numbers jumped way up from the 100,000 range to the 300,000 range after the Bronco reservations were tossed in.

Thanks, I see those now. I think I messed up my sort somehow the first time.

Even so, I don't see how that changes my assessment that someone with a November order that didn't have a prior reservation won't see their car until April. The latest of those order dates is 9/2. We have a large number of people (including some Mach Drops) who still don't have build dates assigned. Build dates are currently scheduled into February. Unless there is something unique that causes the system to move an order earlier due to line efficiency, I doubt that November orders will see a build date before March. We don't know delivery times but once they are that far along they will probably not be expediting shipping, so 4-6 weeks is likely. That's April -- without any new issues with COVID-19 impacting the plant, supply chains, or shipping.

I think you're probably right -- March is probably a good estimate for a build date for someone who ordered in November.

At the same time, the build dates are jumping around quite a bit. It's like there's only a vague adherence to order date (thanks Ford)
You've got this low 17k order number from June, with a February build date:

219bruceski88100179836/30/20202/15/2021

And yet you've got the september, 400k order with a january build date

402ocdavis4110414832
9/2/2020
1/18/2021

I've got a late September order. I'm hoping that it pans out for early February build.

It must the same system - I ordered a Bronco Sport in the first minutes of reservations and the number was in 10147xxx and now a build date of 12/14
