Order Tracking is Broken?

https://Shop.Ford.Com/vehicleordertracking#/ has a new, unlabeled field on it, in addition to the VIN field. The unlabeled field appears to take a maximum of 4 characters. The form no longer works - It returns "System Error - Please try again later." I tried my reservation number in the unlabeled field. No luck. Oh well, I guess my car is still doing tequila shots in Cancun

Looks like an order number field. I guess they want to make sure you're only tracking your own car.

I tried the 4 digit order number that was found in Vehicle Visibility when I was given my VIN and that doesn't work either.

the "order number" appears to be the Dealer order number not your order number from the Ford site.

Look at your window sticker if you saved it and the order number is the last four digits on the bottom where it says item #

We had gotten the order number from our dealer (accidentally) a while back, but noticed today it's on the Monroney sticker in the "ITEM #" box near the bottom. Ours looks like "##-nnnn OT/1"; the four "nnnn" digits work for us.

Yes, the shop.ford.com/vehicleordertracking works with that number and the VIN. I guess this breaks the forum tracker.

I'm trying to think of why ford would make it harder to know information about your vehicle? It's not like the information was very detailed to begin with anyway.

Maybe to stop people from tracking VINs that aren't theirs? Of course, it's not hard to pull up the window sticker with just the VIN. And from there you can get the order number, so it adds an extra step but doesn't really add more security.

Especially since you can see the VIN by just shopping and clicking see the window sticker

They don’t want us checking dealer inventory status. That’s what I was doing ?
It just occurred to me that this is a bit silly since many dealers have links to the window stickers and we’ve just cracked the code, so I can go back to figuring out that there are a total of 3 Mustang Mach Es actually at dealers in the entire tri-state area, and the rest are in some “virtual” state of existence.

indeed this works. and it's easy enough to get the window sticker with the VIN alone (plenty of web sites exist that let you do it), which means that ultimately this doesn't add any real security at all. ?

I tried this with the Item # from my window sticker and got "System error, try again later"

Either it still has some rough edges, or there's enough interest that we're breaking it.

Works for me currently. I used my VIN + the 4-digit order number from the VVR / window sticker.
It's strange that they don't have some test environment to put changes onto before they push live...
