Order vs Reservation

Hi,
I thought the purchase process of custom build starts with going to ford.com, finalizing the build, paying the deposit, choosing a dealer and then confirming with the dealer that they sent the order. But the dealer is telling me that ordering via ford.com is only for reservations for future models and as MME is ready to be built I should only do the order via the dealership, including the deposit.
Does it make sense or something is fishy?

You can reserve online at Ford.com and once you choose a dealer and render your deposit the reservation will be in place. The chosen dealer then needs to accept the reservation and all will proceed as if you ordered through the dealer directly.

Or, you can order directly through the dealer (depending on the dealer this may or may not be more hassle than online).
