Jason Isaac is founder and CEO of the American Energy Institute

I mean... it is basically written by the oil and gas industry as an "opinion" piece.

It's an opinion piece and clearly labelled as such.
Opinion pieces are meant to persuade the readers to the writer's side.
Can it be treated as an opinion piece if the writer has no first hand knowledge and has a monetary interest in their side of an argument? Especially when the vested interest is not disclosed to the reader?

What should it be treated as?

In this case, it was under the opinion section, and the writer is listed as an "opinion contributor." There was no attempt to pass it off as anything other than an opinion piece.

So many half-truths...
Even the “zero-emission” label is misleading. Overwhelmingly, it is coal and natural gas that generate electricity for EVs.
I love that he puts coal first, as though most of our power comes from that. NG (38%) is nearly double that of coal (21%), and nuclear (19%) nearly matches coal. And NG powering an EV is still cleaner than an ICE vehicle.

Last year, 2/3rds of retired generation capacity was coal, and over half of new production was solar, so guess which way this share is going to go?

Also, this is for the entire nation. California (the highest number of EVs), has essentially zero coal power. Florida, the number two EV state, only has 7.5% coal.

Fiction? If I write a story about dragons is that an opinion piece? Or do we want a guy who runs a Dungeons and Dragons Blog writing Opinion pieces about dragons being a threat to humanity being published in known news sources?

Honestly, this is close to trash. Only points that have much basis in reality is the charging nightmare that can happen is seriously sub freezing temps, and that the infrastructure doesn’t hold up yet to the amount of cars on the road.

Also like that the author throws in the term 'Bidenflation', just so you are clear what side he is on...
The author is clearly bias, but isn't that the definition of an opinion piece? A bias article that reflects the view of the writer.

I find it funny that so many people on this forum are outrage over an opinion article that is clearly labeled as such.

There is a whole range of opinion pieces.

You can look at a particular subject or topic, research, and then come to a conclusion.

Or you can go from the other direction, where you already have a conclusion, and then pick and chose details, exaggerate and use biased words and phrases to support your preconceived conclusion.

Guess which one sucks?
