Called my local XPEL installer yesterday and since there's no templates yet, was told I'd have to physically bring the car in for them to measure and quote.

Wish Ford could have taken one to XPEL/3M to have measurements taken for templates!!

Since I have ceramic coating for the Mach E I wrote to 3M and asked if it would be acceptable to apply the ceramic coating to their PPF since I’m having a 3M “bra” put on he car. I just got my answer and was told NOT to put the ceramic coating over the film. Said it would damage the film and cause yellowing. He didn’t explain why they advise against (is there a chemical reaction?) it but I’m going to listen to them as it’s their product and they should know.

I know you like 3M, but you might want to look at Xpel and Suntek. Both of those companies have ceramic friendly ppf.

There are a few articles, threads, etc on the subject throughout the internet. A quick Google search will point you at them.

I'm definitely going to check X-Pel out. My detailer does both I think.

Has anyone heard updates about the Xpel precut patterns? I've had one installer say they still don't have anything yet - does that mean the shop just buys bulk film and trims as needed to install? I am entertaining the idea of DIYing precut patterns if I can find them...I finally have an ETA, but $2K for a full front install is creeping outside of 'drop in the bucket 'range...

Hi Methorian! Great question! As soon as one member of XPEL design team can get his hands on a MACH-E for 4-5 days, they will do the design! Let us assure you that this vehicule is in our priority list as it is a quite popular and expected one! I'd strongly suggest that you inquire from time to time to your local XPEL dealer so he can hook you up as soon as the patterns are there to protect it? :)
If pre-cuts aren't available your installer would be using bulk film and cutting to fit themselves. My local installer indicated I'd have to bring the Mach-E over before they could quote.

I am taking mine to an Xpel company owned shop in Austin so the design guys from San Antonio can come up and spend a week measuring it. The problem is I was supposed to get the car in the beginning of February but now my delivery date has been pushed to end of March even though it has already been built and shipped. The dealership says they are working to expedite the delivery.

I talked with my detailed who applied the 3M PPF on my 2 previous cars and he told me they no longer use 3M; too complicated to get a warranty claim settled and you cannot use a ceramic coating over the film. He switched to X-Pel ultimate which you can get ceramic coating on without a problem (I plan to coat the paint with this and wanted to know if I could overlap onto the film). He said they don’t have the precut templates yet but when they can get ahold of a Mach E they will get the measurements and make them. Also told me the film is “self-healing” if you get scratches on it. For a partial front end “clear bra” he said the ballpark figure was $995. Full front end is more but I don’t want that. I think they cover the headlights too with the clear bra In addition to the front of the rear view mirrors. I’m not worried about them having the precut film as I won’t take delivery for a couple of months.

Got quoted 1100$ + taxes (CAN) for a front (fascia, hood, fenders, rearside of mirrors) on XPEL ultimate. Guy said they don't use precut, always use the bulk, less hassle and wait when they don't have them on stock... And his price is the same for any car..

Detailer near me offers Suntek, which is apparently compatible with Ceramic coatings as well. Requested quotes on their packages and will provide updates. I"m in San Francisco, so not expecting it to be cheap...

Stopped by my local XPEL installer yesterday in my Mach-E. Still no templates obviously, and the person who would quote custom wasn't there.

Was told custom would definitely be more expensive, so I'll probably wait for templates to be available. Also will probably get a bit of tint on the driver and passenger windows. The rear windows are factory tinted pretty hard, so I'd like to blend a bit better with those (though staying within "legal" limits...).

i am getting local quotes from authorized xpel installers (found them via xpel website) and these guys are saying they dont need the templates and with or without templates same price (for xpel or suntek or kavaca). will see if they change their mind in a few weeks by the time i get my car and hopefully xpel will have templates.

Both the places I was working with were fine with doing the job without templates. Mine goes in Monday.

I'm getting full front, side rocker panels, all four wheel lips, and full rear bumper in SunTek PPF then CeramicPro Gold. Total will be about $5000-$5350 depending on the amount of paint correction that's needed.

I considered Xpel but the Xpel shop wanted $8000 for the same job. The difference was the cost of the film. Xpel was twice as much as SunTek. Xpel and SunTek have the same 10 year warranty.

Lifetime warranty on the CeramicPro.
