Personal Profile problem

Hello all you techies out there this old duffer could use a little help please. I set up my personal profile in my Mach ok save that I cannot get it to save a profile photo. It is fine to save an avatar but not my contact photo. I set up my contact details inc a photo in my iPhone and ensured that it was connected to the Mach. My profile name is spelt exactly the same as the contact name in my iPhone.The photo appeared on the profile screen but after pressing the "save" button it reverted to an avatar. Repeating the procedure resulted in no photo appearing at all! The iPhone was connected either by Bluetooth or wirelessly. Should it be physically connected by a USB port? What am I doing wrong? These little problems are very frustrating!?

I was only successful to upload the same picture/avatar I have in my iPhone under settings.
To put in a picture for my wife's profile I changed in the iPhone my picture for my wife's. Then I could upload it in her profile.
