This is probably a stupid question but can we play music on a thumbdrive connected via a USB port. I tried connecting my thumbdrive to the USB port on the center console and it didn't work. I think the USB C and USB A ports are for charging only; same with back seat. Is there another USB port used for playing music? I can't find one. It seems weird that we can't play music via this route.

Under "USB Ports - Playing Media Using the USB Port" in the owner's manual, you should be able to:

Press the Audio button on the Feature bar
Select the USB option
Press the Play button

*Disclaimer: I do not yet own an MME, so I don't know this for a fact.

It works on my car. I have a Kingston 8GB drive that I use in the USB A port in front of the shifter knob. It's only about the size of a wireless mouse antenna so you hardly even notice it. I have a mix of mp3 and wma files on it. Hope this helps.

EDIT: It even works with the Sync voice commands. Just press the button and say "Play [song name]" and it does. ?

I don't see a USB option when the audio is turned on. AM, FM and Satellite radio. You can stream from your phone via Bluetooth or Apple Car Play but I can't find a way to plug the USB flash drive into the USB port and work. I'm able to do this on my Acura MDX and also was able to do it on my Ford Fusion Hybrid. When I plugged the USB drive in I expected to see a playlist or something. What is the file format on your thumb drive? Mine is MS-DOS FAT 32. Perhaps the thumb drive is formatted incorrectly.

IIRC it is standard FAT32. It has worked fine in my last few cars. I didn't do anything special prior to plugging it into my MME.

You've read that manual a few times waiting for your car, haven't you?

It doesn't autoplay.

1) Insert USB drive
2) Select USB as the source
3) Press Play

While it works, works is a *VERY* different thing from working well. Ford needs to badly re-work the interface as it sucks.

I use a flash drive daily. From the Main menu select USB.

Maybe 6 or 7 times. I lost count after the second production delay.

Well I can’t use this then. I’m FAT47
I’m just FAT.

hey @Illinibird there is a thread on MP3 where people have also successfully used USB flash drives. Maybe DM some of them to find out about formatting? https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/does-the-mach-e-support-portable-music-players.7549/

That would be great if it showed USB as a choice when I plug it in; it doesn't. All I see, again, is AM, FM and Sirius (satellite). Where is the USB source choice in relation to these other 3? Do you plug in under the screen in the USB A port? That's what I am doing also but nothing happens after I do that. Maybe I'm not pressing the audio button. I'll try that.

@Illinibird, is there a way you can try exFAT instead of FAT32?

If it still does not work, can you try with a different thumb drive?

What issues are you having? Mine works great. I use it every time I drive my MME.
